An archive has been created for a 1952 performance tape (with lyrics) of Tom Lehrer and others of The Physical Revue, with Lehrer's permission and that of the other surviving performers. It includes many Lehre songs not available elsewhere.

Thanks so much for this. Fascinating. Points out how Tom had several partners in crime. There were giants on the earth. And they were so young.

I've had a little trouble downloading these from the website, right clicked and "save target as" as usual but don't seem to have mp3 files. Any ideas?

When I play these soundfiles, the default player that appears on my screen shows the Apple QuickTime "Q" logo. Most audio that I play on my PC uses the Windows default player instead.

Perhaps these particular recordings require the QuickTIme player (which is avalable free of charge, or at least was when I got mine, and which does not require Apple equipment to be used.)

Sound quality is disapointing, I'm sorry to report. The first selection is especially noisy for the first 20 seconds or so, but even after the really bad problem clears up, the performances sounds very distant and the lyrics are difficlt to decipher.

Mr Gator.
With respect, we are talking the early fifties, with the recording done on a wire recorder....(would love to play with one)
I think it's astonishing that it has survived at all, after 50 plus years.
I don't think Dolby 5.1 was available then.
Just be glad that it has been made available after all these years.
Whatever the quality.
Ralph
