From: bubblyrat

I just got an advance Christmas present, in the form of a CD of Walt Michael & Co., to replace a record I had years ago but lost. The first track is this tune, Ashland Breakdown, played by Walt,Frank Orsini,John Kirk and Mark Murphy, and I think that it is absolutely FABULOUS and I keep on playing it !! Apparently, it was written by Bill Monroe, but I never heard of it before----- Anyone know anything about it, and is it on the web ?? Cheers, Roger...

You can find TableEdit tab on this page: Flatpicked Guitar Music (and download a TableEdit viewer from the same page if you don't have one already).

There is some discussion on various groups and a fiddle transcription in a back-issue of the Fiddler, which you can order (google the title).

There's a nice two mandolin version of it here.
Sounds typical Bill Monroe - great bluegrass tune with a strong Old Time input,
Cheers

The LP versions with Monroe on mandolin and Kenny Baker on fiddle are on the following LPs:

Bill Monroe-"The Weary Traveller"-MCA Records(MCA2173)
Kenny Baker-"Plays Bill Monroe"-County Records (761)

Bill Monroe plays throughout the Kenny Baker Monroetribute album. A few of the cuts appear on MCA Monroe albums.

Ironically, arguments on co-writing credits on another fiddle tune that proved of enduring popularity that is also featured on both these recordings, Jerusalem Ridge" helped contribute to the final split between Baker and Monroe in various ways and had Baker working in partnership with Josh Graves in later years.
