27 Dec 07 - 02:31 PM (#2223301) Subject: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Cats This is absolutley nothing to do with music. I have fallen in love witha a victorian cape that is made by Casco Bay Wool in Maine. It is going to be really expensive and will have to be shipped over to the UK and will be my Christmas present. Does anyone out there live in Maine and know the company? Are they as good as they look and as good as their website says? Also can anyone help on sizes? I am only 5 foot tall but a size 2x. According to their sizes I need an extra long but that is for people whoi are over 5 foot 6 and up to 6 foot tall. Is the regular likely to fit? Can anyone help? |
27 Dec 07 - 02:52 PM (#2223315) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: artbrooks There are a number of Mainiacs who are here regularly - at least one seems to cross the pond with some regularity. |

27 Dec 07 - 03:32 PM (#2223337) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Charley Noble Cats- Wool shops don't get any better than this one. I'm familiar with their retail outlet, 10 Moulton Street, in the old port of Portland. And I bought one of their capes for JudyB who stands slightly under 5 feet tall. I'll ask her to post more pertinent information here, or it may be more appropriate to compare notes via PM. One of our Mudcat friends, Jacqui, travels back and forth to the UK on a farely regular basis. She might be willing to assist with delivery. Cheerily, Charley Noble, aka "Smuggler John" |
27 Dec 07 - 03:32 PM (#2223338) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Becca72 Ok, Cats...I have looked at the website and I can tell you that this shop is located in a very well-to-do section of Portland and it does look like quality merchandise. I also noticed that they give a flat rate for international shipping of $40, which, considering most of the capes are $300+ really isn't that bad...but has been mentioned, Jacqui travels from Maine to the UK twice a year... I would say the size really depends on how long you want this cape to be on you. If it's just a straight cape I would say judging from your height that you should be OK with a "long" as the extra length will be taken up by the 2x requirements...but it may be worth going someplace over there and trying one or two on before ordering... |

27 Dec 07 - 08:15 PM (#2223474) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Charley Noble Sinsull- Between the three of you, you should be able to determine what is the appropriate "2X" by 5-foot size. It will also be a wonderful vicarious experience because the capes are really lovely, but expensive as mentioned. However, a live sheep is not an adequate substitute. You lurkers, needn't bother suggesting that. The shop management tends to be friendly. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
27 Dec 07 - 08:27 PM (#2223479) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Barry Finn I hope the management gets out with their lives still intack with those 3 paying them a visit al at once. They'll clean the racks off in a few seconds flat & leave the floor covered with the gore of the sales crew. You'll probably be paying a healthy discout for 5 capes too instead of the 1 you ordered. I wouldn't send those 3 women to look at asses for fear they'd bring home a russled herd of mustangs that belonged to my neighbor all newly branded. Barry |

28 Dec 07 - 08:58 AM (#2223643) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Charley Noble Sinsull- It's a very small shop. 05 Jan 08 - 01:51 PM (#2229145) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: jacqui.c We went to the shop this morning and tried on one of the capes. Photos will follow via email when Micca downloads his camera at Mary's house. The cape is beautiful and should be good for length. They are having a closing sale, mainly of accessories, at the end of January and have some wonderful scarves, which we may have to check out. We were actually very well behaved - we saved the bad behaviour for the Goodwill store a little later. |
05 Jan 08 - 03:52 PM (#2229267) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Cats Thanks, Jacqui. If it's OK for length will it go round me OK? Which size did you think is best? Long or regular? I don't suppose they are going to put it in the sale!! Glad you were all well behaved. |
05 Jan 08 - 07:42 PM (#2229416) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: SINSULL Cats - I of the ample bosom tried on the cape and there are pictures. It fit perfectly. Jacqui tried it on for length. The color is stunning - looks more red in the pictures than it is. You will be so pleased. It will actually fit you better than me because you are shorter. Really beautiful. And we not only behaved, we absolutely charmed the sales lasy who agreed to forewarn us of the sale and even do a private appointment with us. I also behaved at the Goodwill store but Jacqui and Micca did not. There are pictures to prove it. |

06 Jan 08 - 08:35 AM (#2229642) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: jacqui.c Mary organised the trip with the saleslady so will know what size was brought out. |
06 Jan 08 - 12:31 PM (#2229743) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Micca Mary here - the saleslady says that she discussed size with you and recommended a Regular. The one we tried on had been made that week and was a Regular. Because they are cut so full, she said you go by length more than size. |

07 Jan 08 - 01:34 PM (#2230439) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Charley Noble Sins- Some of us who had the opportunity to intervene were discrete. Be very grateful. I have to admit I did consider warning the management of the "gypsies" who were pillaging other shops in the Old Port, and if they saw a pair of women who fit said description they should immediately call the police. But that would have been wrong! But very funny... Cheerily, Charley Noble |
20 Jan 08 - 05:44 AM (#2240446) Subject: RE: BS: Help - anyone live in Maine? From: Cats Had an e mail this weekend.
