I have fallen in love witha a victorian cape that is made by Casco Bay Wool in Maine. It is going to be really expensive and will have to be shipped over to the UK and will be my Christmas present. Does anyone out there live in Maine and know the company? Are they as good as they look and as good as their website says? Also can anyone help on sizes? I am only 5 foot tall but a size 2x. According to their sizes I need an extra long but that is for people whoi are over 5 foot 6 and up to 6 foot tall. Is the regular likely to fit? Can anyone help? |

I'm familiar with their retail outlet, 10 Moulton Street, in the old port of Portland. And I bought one of their capes for JudyB who stands slightly under 5 feet tall. From: Becca72 Ok, Cats...I have looked at the website and I can tell you that this shop is located in a very well-to-do section of Portland and it does look like quality merchandise. I also noticed that they give a flat rate for international shipping of $40, which, considering most of the capes are $300+ really isn't that bad...but has been mentioned, Jacqui travels from Maine to the UK twice a year... I would say the size really depends on how long you want this cape to be on you. If it's just a straight cape I would say judging from your height that you should be OK with a "long" as the extra length will be taken up by the 2x requirements...but it may be worth going someplace over there and trying one or two on before ordering... |

We can go look at the capes and I am 5'2" and size XL so can try them on and get a rough idea of which ones might suit. If the proprietors don't mind we might even be able to take photos to send so you can see for yourself. I won't be coming to the UK for a while now, but we do have a line on a suitable courier in the next week or so if we can get it all sewn up by then. |

I have had offers of other volunteers. So Jacqui and I will try on burgundy cloaks in 2X to see how they fit and fall. Then I will choose a hunter green, Jacqui a red and Tami a blue and we will be photographed with swords in hand as the Three Musketeers. Then Jacqui with a basket as Little Red Riding Hood and Tami in funny shoes as The Blue Boy. I will remain in green and be a tree on whom hopefully no dog will lift its leg. At least that is the plan for now. |

I'm classed as high moorland but the odds are it will be a snow free day again tomorrow. At least I will know that when the real cold does come I will be really warm in a cape from Maine. I worked there many years ago. I was a counselloer at Little Sebago and Sebago Wohelo summer camps. I met a really nice guy who was singing in a bar in the old part of town on one of my off evenings.. but that was in 1974! |

Photos will follow via email when Micca downloads his camera at Mary's house. The cape is beautiful and should be good for length. They are having a closing sale, mainly of accessories, at the end of January and have some wonderful scarves, which we may have to check out. We were actually very well behaved - we saved the bad behaviour for the Goodwill store a little later. |

Jacqui tried it on for length. The color is stunning - looks more red in the pictures than it is. You will be so pleased. It will actually fit you better than me because you are shorter. Really beautiful. And we not only behaved, we absolutely charmed the sales lasy who agreed to forewarn us of the sale and even do a private appointment with us. I also behaved at the Goodwill store but Jacqui and Micca did not. There are pictures to prove it. |
