From: Greg B If they thought it ironic that an American company, Ford, acquired and produced the Land Rover and Jaguar marques, how much moreso is it that Ford now proposes to sell both of them to Tata, an Indian company. Holy Imperial Irony Batten-man! |

03 Jan 08 - 09:21 PM (#2227923) Subject: RE: BS: Land Rover and Jaguar to India? From: Greg B Jag just doesn't seem to have much of a market in the US. The German machines (BMW, MB, AUDI) just dominate that end of the market, together with the rice burners like Acura, Lexus, and Infinity. You don't see many, so maybe they're going the way of FIAT, MG, and Triumph. I came reasonably close to an X-Type, even knowing it was a Ford Sierra. But they didn't have a wagon as of yet, so ended up with an AUDI. That was in the X-Type's first year. |

You can buy Indian Enfields in Britain, I believe. They produce them, but if reports are accurate, they don't develop them, so they are much as they were in the 50s. |

That was made in India and imported into the UK. There are lots of production plants in India producing other makes and models, this is not as new as some may think. Cant help remembering what the Chinese did to Longbridge...... |

04 Jan 08 - 08:15 AM (#2228139) Subject: RE: BS: Land Rover and Jaguar to India? From: Richard Bridge I would expect the real Landrovers (90 and 110) to do very well in India, the point being that they should be simple and field maintainable, but they will have to be better than the Mahindras which although rubbished by the press over here were a functional simple offroader of considerable capability. |

04 Jan 08 - 09:49 AM (#2228203) Subject: RE: BS: Land Rover and Jaguar to India? From: Grab My wife's got a City Rover. For all that it was designed in India, it's definitely a Rover - OK to drive, but cheap plastic interior filled with squeaks and rattles. In other words, Traditional British Build Quality, as standard in British industry for the last 50 years. Shit materials, badly designed, assembled by factory workers who either don't know or don't care how to do their jobs properly. Graham. |
