It's in Colm O'Lochainn's book "More Irish Street Ballads". I'll scan it if I get a chance.

Regards

I've posted the tune in this thread: Lyr Req: Piper of Crossbarry where the words were requested (presumably by you?).

Mick

(Perhaps a mudelf can combine these threads - MCP).

Hmm, there's no tune in the thread Mick cites.

Is this the tune you need?

The tune was requested in this thread: t, presumably by the same person. I'm posting it here, and maybe a mudelf will combine the threads.

The song, as Martin says, is in O'Lochlainn's More Irish Street Ballads as No.58A and is to be sung to the tune of No.58 - Sweet Jenny of the Moor. I've put the words to that tune making (I think only 1) very minor alterations to the tune to fit the words (G3->G2 G on captain; I corrected the penultimate bar given as F E on Jenny in my copy to F2 E to give the bar the correct length).

O'Lochlainn's notes the No.58 are: "The Hackler tune from Irish Street Ballads No. 39, it resembles 'An Spealdóir' or 'Abhrán na Leabhar'. ** From an old ballad collection undated except for the reference to the battle of Alma in the Crimea".

Geoff

I put the link here before I added it to the other thread (so I could put the link from here in with my post there, if you see what I mean).

It's not the same tune that O'Lochlainn gives for his version of the song.
