11 Jan 08 - 04:42 PM (#2234209) Subject: I spilt coffee all over... From: GUEST,Prof. J Hertay I have spent many years observing the human species. Much of my research has concentrated on humour. Many people seem to report coffee coming out of thier mouth when a good joke is made. Is there something wrong with thir mouthes? I have to admit that I am at am impass. During my research I have never found any real people spitting coffee onto their computers/keyboards/shirts. Yet numerous people claim to do such things. |

Actually, a sudden and unexpected guffaw could cause liquid to escape either orifice, depending upon the stage of consumption at which the laugher is caught. I do sometimes use this expression figuratively rather than literally, but I have certainly experienced actual involuntary spewing of a beverage more than once during my 60 years on this earth. I will also sometmes report that "I almost peed on myself." When I say that, I am exaggerating. I have yet to actually urinate involuntarily just because something's funny. Of course, there's a first time for everything, and I'm not getting any younger... |

11 Jan 08 - 05:17 PM (#2234240) Subject: RE: I spilt coffee all over... From: JohnInKansas " ... a sudden and unexpected guffaw could cause liquid to escape either orifice ..." (?) My personal suggestion, based obviously on many more people of good humor than are included in the experience of the esteemed and respected GUEST, is that the sentence must be amended to: " ... a sudden and unexpected guffaw could cause liquid to escape ANY orifice ..." With the exception of spewing from mouth and nose, it would be unusual in circumstances I can visualize easily to see impingement on monitor or screen, hence references to other modes of execution are understandably absent from conversations here (or at least are rare). (Although with a little effort, the "visualizations" do perhaps present some "interesting" possibilities, perhaps useful for future "inducing" of the phenomena at hand. Utility would likely be limited to exchanges with certain personae here who have appropriate quirks of body and soul.) John |

From: Little Hawk I think that Shane once spewed beer out of his mouth AND nostrils AND simultaneously lost control of both his bladder AND his sphincter muscle... It was the time that the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sudbury cops came piling through the front door, back door, and windows of the place on Bond Street when he and Don were dividing up that 25 pounds of dope that they scored, and separating out the seeds and twigs on the dining room table. Somebody must've squealed on them. It was a bad moment, eh? |

From: gnomad We need LTS on this one, she invented the KAKSOD acronym for just these circumstances, and I have been meaning to ask whether she buys keyboards wholesale. As to the good professor's query, I have come close to losing bits of drink through laughing, but seldom while at the keyboard as I usually choose not to drink while driveling. My keyboard has had a dusting of biscuit (cookie to westpondsiders) crumbs from time to time. I don't think there is much wrong with my mouth, take no notice of anyone who tells you different, they just know me too well. |

Coffee machines were new and I didn't have a clue so I filled the well with water and turned to deal with the filter. The water came out in a scalding spray and drenched an area about four feet wide. I thought this was very funny and peed my pants laughing while an officious office temp lectured me on how it wasn't funny making it absolutely hilarious. Two birds with one stone? |

11 Jan 08 - 08:31 PM (#2234402) Subject: RE: I spilt coffee all over... From: Bobert I like Guatamala coffe which, if injested correctly (no needles) will not return from either the nose or the mouth regardless of what one reads... However, the dreaded Meteporical coffee, from the Land of Meta, is quite another beast indeed... I've heard of the stuff returnin' from the ears??? Of course, one would have to listen to some very lousy music, maybe shanty songs, to swallow it and find it coming out the ears but... ... that is what I've heard... B~ |
