BS: '08 Question for Mudwomenz???

13 Jan 08 - 08:53 PM (#2235803)
Subject: BS: '08 Question for Mudwowenz???
From: Bobert

Okay, Mudwomenz... '07 was a year in which you all repeatedly implied that we men didn't know jack from jack so here is yer brain teaser for '08:

If a man were to admit that he was wrong, would that make the man right????

Have at it ladies...

Bobertz, we ain't implied nothin' of the sort. Men often know Jack from Jack. They just have trouble sometimes knowing Jill from Jill.

If a man said to me, "You're right, I'm wrong," I would consider it a passive aggressive comment intended to shut me up and end the conversation. Nobody would win. He would walk away; smugly thinking he was smart for ending a discussion he couldn't win and I would feel angry and resentful at being patronized.

If a man were alone in the middle of a big deep forest, where nobody else could hear him, and he expressed an opinion.
Would he still be wrong?

Bobert's initial assumption, that all men are always wrong, is fallacious. Men are not always wrong. They're simply never right.

Bobert my love - you shouldn't use generalisations in this way. Not all womenz are quite as didactic as you suggest.

I sometimes allow the Cap'n to be right - it gives him so much pleasure that it's worth the sacrifice.

Ha! Bobert, I am going to pretend to be a Mudwomanz, just so I can answer the question you pose...

"If a man were to admit that he was wrong, would that make the man right????"

Yes! The moment he admitted that he'd been wrong, he'd be right. And he'd be forgiven. ;-)

14 Jan 08 - 10:49 AM (#2236119)
Subject: RE: BS: '08 Question for Mudwomenz???
From: Bee

It's my experience that the man firmly believes he's right even when he isn't, and no amount of reasoning from a woman will change his mind. It'll just put his back up and he'll say things like "Why do you always have to argue?" and "Oh, yeah, you're always right!"

Weeks or months later, they will come in and say "Did you know I was wrong about ___? So-and-so told me." So-andso is always another man, and the man you argued with will never remember that you told him he was wrong - just that you're always arguing: poor him.

There, that's my stereotyping contribution to this thread!

In my experience, a man who is alone in the middle of a big deep forest where no-one can hear him is there because he wants to be there. My camp sits on a riverbank, nestled among tall pines and cedars, surrounded by wildlife, and the nearest payphone, including cell service, is six miles away. And, if I feel like it, that payphone was out of order when I tried to call. Can't argue with that.

Yeah, following "girly" directions can be mind-bending. VEry careful, and precise they are, but only if you know the code.

"Follow this road until it gets a little bit built-up and then turn left. Go along the windy road until you feel like you have gone too far and then go a little further, and there will be a sort of pinkish building and lots of flowers, mostly blue with some red ones here and there--really pretty... Turn right onto a road that you think is too small to be the right one, but keep going because it really is, and go a long way, and you'll see the place on the right next to the tall grass...a white house, that looks like it should be a little longer and maybe would be better beige...You can't miss it!"

I gotta tell ya, thank god for Google Maps.

Ha! Well, those directions sound okay to me, Amos. Yeah, I think I could handle that. Very organic. ;-)

I had a friend (male) who used to give directions sort of like that, only more drawn out and with way more specific technical details to look out for. He would provide so many of those details that your brain would just overload after awhile. I had to tell him, "Look, just tell me what street it's on, the street number, and what major intersection it is nearest to. I'll find it."

Ah stranger, when it's a rainin' it's too wet to fix it and when it's dry it's just as good as any mans house.

Hey farmer! You're not too far from a fool are you?

Reminds me of a TV ad on just before Christmas for a shaver; accompanying various pictures of mountains, the moon and such, the voice-over would intone: 'Conquored Everest, conquored the oceans, conquored space;' to which the only reply was 'still can't put the seat down'...

Subject: RE: BS: '08 Question for Mudwomenz???
From: Janie

Back in the olden days, when this womanz was in the prime of sweet young thinghood, the beau bought a brand new little sports car. I forget what it was -an MG or triumph- something of that ilk. The first night he got it, we went cruising through the local drive-in restaurant parking lot and he collected an entourage to go to the car wash where all the local wags could admire it under the bright lights of one of the stalls. Car buffs all, amateur mechanics. I was the only female in the bunch, and my knowledge and interest in cars extended to wanting to know where the gas cap was, and no further.

When enough oohing, awing, and looking under the hood had been accomplished, and we were all set to head back to the drive-in, the shiny, new little car would not start.   Up went the hood again, and four heads poked, fiddled, cranked, opined, etc., etc.

Early on, I commented that I had heard a little metallic clank when we stopped the car on arrival. I was completely ignored. Several minutes later, I very tentatively opined that maybe some one should look under the car. that metal clank, you know. Again, I was ignored.

Increasingly bored with the whole affair, I eventually looked under the car myself, and found a shiny, round, concave metal somethingorother with a lip that looked to me like it might be designed to seal or cap a hole. It looked brand new. The car was brand new. It was under the engine of the car. The car wouldn't start. All the poking, jiggling, fiddling with sparkplug wires, etc., on the part of our 4 heros were having no effect.

"Uh, Guys? Any of you know lots more than me, but so far you haven't found anything amiss. I found this under the car. It is so shiny and new, seems like it must have come off the car.   Might it seal something to create a vacuum, or....you know....might it have something to do with the problem?"

They didn't completely ignore me this time in that the beau did take the piece from my hand, and agree it was shiny and new enough to have come off the car. The guys collectively spent three seconds looking at it before agreeing that what ever it was, it couldn't be the problem. Eventually, they put a tow strap on the new little car and towed it to the dealership to be looked at the next day, and beau got one of them to take me home.

At the dealership the next day, the mechanic quickly noted the metal cap needed for some hose or engine compartment to create a vacuum seal for the engine to start and run was missing.

"Oh," says the beau. "This one?" pulling the piece I had found the night before from the back seat.

"Yep" said the mechanic. Beau had the decency to look sheepish.

5 minutes later we were out of there.

Don't start me on logic and its lack thereof...

If you had an old thin piece of wood, would you soak it in hot water for 45 minutes and agitate at speed in a metal drum?

That's what happened to my grandmothers' 50yr old wooden handled sewing bag when I mentioned that it was dirty and needed a wash...

It's the same with certain items that melt in hot water or are labelled 'not safe for dishwashers'.

Ho hum.

I knew it would come down to this...

(Oh, bobertz... You are genious....)

Yes, I know... I love it, too...

So I declare victory!!!

Haha...

Sorry, ladies... I gave you your chance...

Happy Bobert

Sorry Bobert, but I can only speak as I find, and so far in my 40something years, many of which have been spent with men, I have yet to find any evidence that they are the superior beings they think they are.

There was one I lived with who, if I bought an electrical appliance (toaster, kettle, that sort of thing) would ask who fitted the plug. If I replied that I had done it, he would immedately take a pair of scissors and cut it off 2 inches from the plug and rewire it with no comment. If I told him the "man in the shop" had done it, he left it as it was without inspecting it.

In the end, I fitted the plugs and just told him that the "man in the shop" had done it. Nothing I wired ever blew up, neither did I ever burn my ass on a gas fire as he did - but that's another story!

Well, Lizzy... I can't answer fir one dumbass man and I have never said that we men are the superior race 'cause that would sound sexist... All I have stated is that men "can be right", even if it's only in admi8tting they are wrong... And after a week I haven't seen any of the Mudwomenz come up and say, by golly, it is possible for a man to be right...

So, inspite of yer plug-phoblic man, I'm putting this one down in the Bobert "Victory Column", thank you...

Life is, indeed, good...

Plus it's snowin'...

But only when we let them!

Besides... right or wrong: there has to be a 50/50 chance doesn't there? Or maybe 30/70!

I once had to pick up the keys for the local scout hut so that we could use it for the festival, the "scout lady" had moved house during the year & left me a message on my phone to say:- As you know we have moved, drive to Hanney & we are the last road on the right, number 3. So I had to drive THROUGH Hanney to ensure that I had run out of right turns & then go back & take the first left!
A street name would have been good or 5th on the right!

See! Peace is right!

Specifics - Well, there have been occasions when we are out in the car and I don't think he's going the right way but he's proved me wrong.

We were watching the turkeys in the back yard the other day and he counted five, I counted six - he was right.

There have been a few times when we were supposed to be going somewhere and he said no, because the weather looked threatening and he got it right.

Mostly he's right because we discuss rather than argue and generally come to a consensus about matters. He is definitely right to respect my opinion, but I am right to do the same for him, even if we disagree.

I get plenty of opportunities to be right, and sometimes I take them.

But as a gentleman, I never, ever, rub it in or try to make the fairer half acknowledge my rightness. That would be really asking for trouble. As long as no-one's counting, I'm getting one helluva bargain...

No, I have thought it over and, well, yeah, it is a possibility... Might of fact, I was right juts today...

(You were right, Bobertz???)

Yes, I must confess to being right... You see the P-Vine and I did make outta Shangrila (Pine Grove Holler) and went to Leesburg and I asked her where she wanted to go to lunch and she said "Guess" and I guessed that she'd like to go to "Red, White and Blues" and sho nuff, guess as it was, but that's where she wanted to go...

I know it was a lucky guess but, hey, I was right and she'd say I was right if she liked to play in Mudville...

Sniff... Oh, the shame....
