29 Jan 08 - 11:37 AM (#2247884) Subject: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: katlaughing FRANKFURT (Reuters) - German nudists will be able to start their holidays early by stripping off on the plane if they take up a new offer from an eastern German travel firm. Travel agency OssiUrlaub.de said it would start taking bookings from Friday for a trial nudist day trip from the eastern German town of Erfurt to the popular Baltic Sea resort of Usedom, planned for July 5 and costing 499 euros ($735). "It's expensive, I know," managing director Enrico Hess told Reuters by phone. "It's because the plane's very small. There's no real reason why a flight in which one flies naked should be more expensive than any other." The 55 passengers will have to remain clothed until they board, and dress before disembarking, said Hess. The crew will remain clothed throughout the flight for safety reasons. "I wish I could say we thought of it ourselves but the idea came from a customer," Hess told Reuters by phone. "It's an unusual gap in the market." Naturism, or "free body culture" (FKK) as it is known in Germany, was banned by the Nazis but blossomed again after the Second World War, particularly in eastern Germany. "There are FKK hotels where you can go into the restaurants and shops naked, for example," Hess said. "For FKK fans -- not that I'm one of them -- it's nothing unusual." "I don't want people to get the wrong idea. It's not that we're starting a swinger club in mid-air or something like that," he added. "We're a perfectly normal holiday company." From: McGrath of Harlow I'm surprised this hasn't been introduced generally as a precaution against terrorists smuggling weapons and so forth on board. It might also have the advantage of cutting down the use of air travel and so helping to beat global warming. |

29 Jan 08 - 02:33 PM (#2248038) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: JohnInKansas There have been numerous "special group" events among charter travel providers where nudity is just one of the "common interests" of the groups. If you're a member of such a group, it appears to be common enough that you'd have heard of at least a few. Publicity is usually "discreetly limited" to members and fellow travelers, but I've seen (but not received, ^#$%@) invitations to "nude cruises" with an entire (small) cruise ship reserved for such group plans. A trip of this kind really isn't more strange or less usual than a local church making a "members only" trip on a bus. (Or much less bizare/perverted(?) than a bunch of fans going to a foootball game together.) A coworker, ca 1967, reported at the office one Monday morning ca 1967 that a dozen members of his sky-diving club had performed a nude "demonstration jump" into a nudist camp in Michigan the previous weekend. (His most memorable comment was "those straps HURT!") Their inquiry to Guiness as to whether that was a "new record" got the reply "been done too many times." John |

29 Jan 08 - 03:22 PM (#2248083) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: katlaughing LOL...thanks for the visuals, Emma. Talk about kissing himself in the arse! JohninKS, we've a nudist gathering site, here, and they are very circumspect as to publicity. The only reason I know of it is the TV news covered (oops, maybe not the right word>;) it one time. I haven't seen them skydive, but I did watch a richie swim in off a yacht with enough gold chains around his neck you'd think he'd drown. It looked as though he was over-compensating for his decidedly small "package." |

29 Jan 08 - 03:58 PM (#2248113) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: Emma B I've been on nudist beaches in other (much warmer) parts of Europe. My impression is of 'normal' folks who just prefer a different approach to life - kinda like folkies:) IMO - it's the only way to swim but beware of goats on the beach with a taste for clothing :) |

29 Jan 08 - 04:14 PM (#2248131) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: Georgiansilver I accidentally ventured onto a naturist beach at Cap D'Agde in Southern France. I suddenly realised that the people around me had no clothes on and could feel my colours rising....but..I took off my shorts and placed my towel on the sand and lay down. After five minutes of embarrasment, I realised that no-one was actually staring at me or even taking notice of me and I enjoyed the liberation of sunbathing in the buff. I would do it again without reservation. I also think that without clothing..whatever shape or however well off people are....you don't really notice. Best wishes, Mike. |

29 Jan 08 - 04:28 PM (#2248144) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: katlaughing We enjoyed it the few times we went to a nudist beach in Rhode Island but it has been shut down, I think, for the piping plover, now. I was relieved to see folks of all shapes and sizes. While we had fun in the water, the one thing I would NOT want to do, in the nude, is body surf. Seems to me that would hurt! |

29 Jan 08 - 05:01 PM (#2248168) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: Bill D I have been nude with others in swimming situations twice...it was mostly because it was silly to make a special effort to have a swim suit in a secluded place. It was quite pleasant, but going out of the way JUST to be nude in an airplane seems odd to me....as it would if I were hiking in the woods..etc. There are just too many things that are dangerous and/or uncomfortable with no clothes...and I sunburn easily. Swimming nude makes sense, playing darts doesn't. |

29 Jan 08 - 05:29 PM (#2248194) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: frogprince Speaking as someone who enjoys an occasional "breath of fresh air" at a free beach or a nudist resort with a nice pool and campground, I just can't get that excited about peeling off to sit around on an airplane flight. A cruise (I've heard of some big enough to fill fair sized cruise ships) would be more comparable to a nice resort experience. But so far we've been more inclined to fly to an island where we can divide our time between (clothed) sightseeing and bare beach-bumming. It's almost painful sometimes to be as much of a photographer as I am, but to know that shooting freely at nude beaches and resorts is (quite understandably) a no-no. On various occasions I could have gotten very appealing, totally non-sexual, anonomous images of couples sitting or strolling on the beach, or standing on a rock in the surf and looking out to sea. I'm not the guy with the nerve to approach strangers and ask them for permission to photgraph them nude. |

29 Jan 08 - 06:29 PM (#2248221) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: frogprince A couple of years ago, I confirmed that there really are turtles in Turtle Lake. I was more or less neck deep when I felt something slightly painful and very startling. I emerged with a little bruise on my...uh..."nose"... that looked just like I had been pinched with a needle-nose pliers. I've tossed and turned some at nights since, hoping that that was a girl turtle... |

From: JohnInKansas Bill D - As a one who did a fair amount of "sandpit swimming" as a kid, I can assure you that even little bluegills can BITE. 30 Jan 08 - 02:30 AM (#2248402) Subject: RE: BS: A new(d) way to fly! From: JohnInKansas There were a number of "sandpits" converted to swimmin' holes "way back when" and only a few that people I hung out with ever went to more than a couple of them. I don't really remember where some of them were, since the "geography" has changed a lot. Most of the old swimming places have been filled in and are now shopping malls and/or "mobile home parks." The most memorable incident with bluegill attacks was at Lake Afton "out west" from town - fully and properly clothed for bathing of course, in the approved swimming area. "Sunning" in the shallows resulted in a number of "oral ejaculations" from several people, as the fish apparently were quite hungry that day. "Dangling special bait" is not required if they're active, although they generally left "moving objects" alone. John |
