01 Feb 08 - 10:20 AM (#2250424) Subject: Dave Rowe Trio & Caroline Doctorow in NJ From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Tired of hearing about elections, Super Bowls, reality TV, or maybe cabin fever is starting to sink in? Looking for an opportunity to escape for a few hours? I have the perfect solution... Tickets are still available for this Saturday's concert (Feb. 2) featuring the Dave Rowe Trio and special guest Caroline Doctorow. The 8:00pm show is part of the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club concert series at the Fair Lawn Community Center in Fair Lawn, NJ. A number of people have asked me to describe the Dave Rowe Trio . They might know that he is the son of the late Tom Rowe and wonder if the trio sounds like his father's trio - Schooner Fare. They might know that with his late father, he was part of the group Turkey Hollow and wonder if the trio sounds like them. They might know that Dave started his musicial career working with The Makem Brothers and wonder if the trio has that "Makem Magic". The answer to all is - yes... plus more! The Dave Rowe Trio has a unique sound an and energy that needs to be experienced. They describe their sound as "authentic Maine music" - a blend of traditions from Canada, France, Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales - and in the spirit of Maine, all wrapped in an individual and unique style. Expect songs of the Maritime, stories of Maine and the characters that make it unique, and a performance that is electrifying! The Dave Rowe Trio is driven by lyrical fiddle melodies and hearty three-part harmonies from group members Dave Rowe, Ed Howe and Kevin O'Reilly. They have been described as a "musical freight train that blends in-yourface, three-part harmony with hot guitar pickin', jaw-dropping fiddling, and dry Downeast wit. The result is a show that grabs an audience and makes them hold on for dear life through the final chord of the encore." This is one show you do not want to miss!! Opening the evening will be Caroline Doctorow . Caroline is the daughter of novelist E.L. Doctorow (Ragtime, Billy Bathgate) so you can imagine that her songwriting features strong lyrics and moving narratives. In addition to her own songs, Caroline has an affinity for interpreting the works of other great writers, notably 60's icons Mimi & Richard Farina, Fred Neill, and Bob Dylan among others. Caroline also posses a lovely voice, breathy vocals that wrap themselves around the song. Her performance is a unique expression of the beauty of great songs. Tickets are only $20 ($17 for Hurdy Gurdy members) and can be purchased online at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org or at the box office at the Fair Lawn Community Center on the night of the concert. (We suggest advance tickets to insure that you will get a seat and to avoid waiting on lines the night of the show.) Tickets are also available at Brier Rose Books, 450 Cedar Lane in Teaneck, NJ. The Fair Lawn Community Center is located at 10-10 20th Street (corner of Kipp Street) in Fair Lawn, NJ and directions can be found at their website - www.fairlawncommunitycenter.org . Additional information can be found at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org or www.hurdygurdyfolk.blogspot.com, or by calling the Hurdy Gurdy Hotline at (201) 384-1325 The forecast for Saturday is clear skies, above normal temperatures, and wonderful music in the air in Fair Lawn! We hope to see you there!!! |
