Them Spanish Inquisitors used it a few years back, only then they'd ram a cloth down yer throat and keep pouring water on it. Then just before you were ready to die they pulled the cloth out. Exquisitely painful going and coming, so to speak. And then there was the simple method of forcing the mouth open and just pouring water in. Sound familiar? William Lithgow of England was subjected to the last form in the 18th Century. It was considered torture then, and no quibbling about it. |
