20 Feb 08 - 05:35 AM (#2267205) Subject: Heruteu: History of Hartlepool in Song From: GUEST Hi Folks, there's a special concert making its first outing on Thurs 21st Feb at Hartlepool Central Library. starts at 7pm. Tickets £1 on the door here's the article from the H'pool Mail: Heruteu: a Musical Journey through the History of Hartlepool On Thursday 21st February Hartlepool Central library will host an evening of local song. Heruteu is a new concert written and performed by local folk group the Young'Uns. Using the sea as their central theme, the group will trace the history of Hartlepool in song and story. The concert will include original songs about the lives of Hartlepool's early saints, the medieval market town, the Bombardment and the Croft amongst others, mixing real historical events with local legends and folklore. Sean Cooney, a free lance music leader and storyteller, envisaged the idea for the concert shortly after moving to the Headland little over a year ago. "The hardest thing has been trying to decide what we will have to leave out" said Sean. The history of Hartlepool is so vast and impressive it's a hard task to do it justice in just one hour!" He will be joined by David Eagle and Michael Hughes. Together they make up the Young'Uns who, after just three years singing together, are quickly gaining a national reputation on the UK folk scene. This year they will be taking their local songs around the country. "Everywhere we go people ask us to sing about the monkey and sometimes it can be quite hard to get the message across that there's so much more to Hartlepool than that." The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are £1 and can be purchased from all Hartlepool Libraries or on the door. For more information visit the group's website at www.folkfolk.co.uk. cheers Sean |
