There was a programme on Spem in Alium on Radio 4 the other day, it's a unique piece, and I love it.

The Lazarus tune would probably be a contender.

Spem In Alium by Thomas Tallis, what an incredible piece of music it is. I just ordered a recording of it by The Taverner Consort and Choir.

Spem, spem, spem, spem: fantastic, I love that one.

I'll add my vote, too. I was introduced to it a number of years ago by my partner's dad, who force fed it to me at high volume. Good shout.

What seems to be the oldest notated song in the world

sounds a lot like "Merrily We Roll Along".

Spem in alium - hope in an onion? Can any mnusicologists tell us if Tallis was peeling an onion when he got the idea of writing a multilayered motet in 40 parts. I think we should be told.

I think you might be right, am just notating in down, I'll try it on the piano a bit later on.
