looking for lyrics of what I think is a childrens' song,
The cat has a coat of fur,
the cow has a leather jerkin,
the sheep has a big wooly jumper,
but all we have is skin, skin, skin.
can anybody help, please.

A faint memory of a Matt McGinn song comes to mind. I'll have a root around and see if I can find.

Leon Rosselson, I do believe, though I can't (ATM) find the lyrics.

Hmmm...the only song with "cat" in its title, listed on Rosselson's website is The Neighbour's Cat. Those lyrics don't match up: click.

Nah, not that one.
It's called Skin,
It's on a CD called Songs & Stories for Children (or something similar) along with Why Does It Have To Be Me? and Kangaroos Like To Hop.
Roy Bailey does it as well.

I think it's the Questions, Songs, and Stories for Children listed HERE. I couldn't find it by Roy, but did find one he did called "You've got to have skin." I'll keep looking. Thanks for the clues, Diane.
