Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green

Recently I heard that John Conolly wrote some new lyrics for his Song "Fiddler's Green". This new version is recorded by the duo "Trim Rig and a Doxy" and probably also by John himself. Can anybody help me with the words?

Thanks,

Kees

John has indeed added additional lyrics to fiddlers green and it is on Ranters Wharf CD http://www.chanteycabin.co.uk/John%20Connolly/Connolly.htm
You can buy this excellent CD from that site. I have a copy of Ranters Wharf and it is really worth buying.

there is another listing in the D.t. as well as a thread about a parody.

Yes and I see as usual that they spell his name wrong. Its John Conolly not John Connolly.

I know the traditional lyrics. I was asking about his revision.

Hi guy's

John was kind enough to suggest we sing his new version and sent us the words. First and last verses are the usual ones sung from the first written version. In the middle are three new verses sung without chorus in between

Far over the foam lies the land of the Leal
The crossing, the voyage, the turn of the wheel
Where fabled valhalla once called to all men
and friends long forsaken may meet once again

Where all journeys end at the rim of the world
The banners of Avalon now are unfurled
And where is the boatman to bear me away
With the fast falling sun at the close of the day

warm westerley wind my old fairweather friend
Come whisper your welcome to dreams without end
Old songs and old stories ring out and ring true
In Tir na n'Ogs land where all things are made new

Enjoy!!!

I am with you there Les - Far too many people are NOT crediting sources - Equally as important , I feel , is where you 'got' a traditional song , as Crediting the writer of a song !
Us Professional Song Thieves can get a bad press too easily !

Yes indeed LF. A good roll model of how to credit a song is Vin Garbutt.
He makes absolutely sure that you are left in no doubt who wrote the song/lyrics. follow his lead.

Beautifully written, but Norse mythology seems out of place in a song of English fishermen.
I think I will stick to the original.

Doxy,

Thank you for the lyrics. I have your CD (bought in Enkhuizen a week ago) and enjoyed it. I just couldn't understand all the words, English is not my native tongue.

Performed the new version last night. Halfway through, I switched back to inserting the choruses, as it was clear the audience wanted to join in. It also felt more comfortable that way. [That may change with time.] Other than that, it went over great.
