24 Feb 08 - 09:51 AM (#2270936) Subject: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: GUEST,Shanty Kees Recently I heard that John Conolly wrote some new lyrics for his Song "Fiddler's Green". This new version is recorded by the duo "Trim Rig and a Doxy" and probably also by John himself. Can anybody help me with the words? Thanks, Kees |

25 Feb 08 - 02:05 PM (#2272041) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: GUEST,Doxy Hi guy's John was kind enough to suggest we sing his new version and sent us the words. First and last verses are the usual ones sung from the first written version. In the middle are three new verses sung without chorus in between Far over the foam lies the land of the Leal The crossing, the voyage, the turn of the wheel Where fabled valhalla once called to all men and friends long forsaken may meet once again Where all journeys end at the rim of the world The banners of Avalon now are unfurled And where is the boatman to bear me away With the fast falling sun at the close of the day warm westerley wind my old fairweather friend Come whisper your welcome to dreams without end Old songs and old stories ring out and ring true In Tir na n'Ogs land where all things are made new Enjoy!!! Fair winds Doxy |

25 Feb 08 - 02:40 PM (#2272079) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: Leadfingers I am with you there Les - Far too many people are NOT crediting sources - Equally as important , I feel , is where you 'got' a traditional song , as Crediting the writer of a song ! Us Professional Song Thieves can get a bad press too easily ! |
25 Feb 08 - 03:48 PM (#2272138) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: Rasener Yes indeed LF. A good roll model of how to credit a song is Vin Garbutt. He makes absolutely sure that you are left in no doubt who wrote the song/lyrics. follow his lead. |
26 Feb 08 - 05:58 AM (#2272571) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: Keith A of Hertford Beautifully written, but Norse mythology seems out of place in a song of English fishermen. I think I will stick to the original. |

09 Mar 08 - 10:46 PM (#2284055) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: New Lyrics Fiddler's Green From: EBarnacle Performed the new version last night. Halfway through, I switched back to inserting the choruses, as it was clear the audience wanted to join in. It also felt more comfortable that way. [That may change with time.] Other than that, it went over great. |
