Carolina Chocolate Drops in Ireland, etc

The fine African American old time string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops newsletter reports the following:

This week, we are so, so excited to be playing in Ireland!

Tomorrow, we will play our first show on the Emerald Isle - at The Errigle Inn in Belfast!

Then, on Thursday we will head over to Omagh to play at the Strule Theatre. Finally, on Friday we'll be Rathfriland at the Bronte Centre.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be touring all over Europe, with stops in Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Holland and Belgium. Check out our calendar for all the details. We are very excited and will try to update as much as possible.

If you know anyone in this neck of the woods, please send them our way!

Thanks!
-the Carolina Chocolate Drops

Thanks for that!

I hope they come down this way--I've seen several videos of them and they are excellent, especially if you like old-timey music.

Since they not going to play anywhere near me or within traveling distance: will you please give us a report, Gulliver?

Best wishes
Ernest

Enjoy, folks! And if you get a chance, of course, give them the standard wonderful mudcat welcome - you'll be glad you did.

I'm so excited for these guys, and for people over there to have a taste. It's a match made in heaven : )

The gig in the Sheffield Memorial hall on March 9th seems to be a non-goer. It's not on the Choc Drops' website list, nor the Memorial Hall's - they've got another name that night.
Real shame - I was looking forward to it. I saw them in North Carolina and got to meet them - they're great. Heavily influenced by the old fiddler Joe Thompson, they put a superb black feel into Old Time music.

Hi Ernest, how are you doing? Yes, if all goes well I'd be more than happy to provide a review. It's a funny co-incidence--only last Saturday we had a little bluegrass/old-time sing-song in the Garda Club, and I was telling my friends about the Chocolate Drops, and we were saying we'd have to go to the States if we wanted to see them, and here they are now on my doorstep (metaphorically speaking)!

Hey Ray, that's a shame - you could always blast up the A1M to Newcastle! Or come down to Bristol. Nick

Hi Don,
the luck of the Irish certainly! I am fine but a little disappointed that CCD won`t make it to Germany...

Best wishes

Nearest gig to me is on Monday at Maidstone, and I won't be able to make it there. Too bad. Here is a YouTube clip of the group. Yes indeed!

They must be doing pretty well, I just heard an interview on R.T.E radio today, they played a few songs live on air. Sounded like 5 string banjo, fiddle, and some kind of wind instrument that I couldn't make out what it was. A good sound indeed.
Playing out in ''The Naul'' the weekend, 10 minutes drive for me, It might be too late for a ticket,

Look at that link I gave and you'll see what instruments they would have been most likely to have been playing.

The Naul is a tiny venue (Seamus Ennis Centre?) if it's the one I'm thinking of but worth a phone call.

That wind instrumnet could well be a jug (as in jug band).
