Anyone know of any sessions on the Isle of Wight and if so, what sort and when?

Greetings to the Vectis Isle from myself who was born and raised there. I will be there from March 20-26 to see my sister and brothers for the first time in six years and hope the weather warms up before then as it's the start of our three month cycle tour through Europe!
Greetings Vectis, from Australia - Paul

Having folkie friends on the island visits are always arranged around the folk nights.
Best from my point of view is Arreton Barns on a Tuesday, music to start and finish (landlord is a superb box player)and then round the room, with song, tune, stories. Hope it's still going, havn't been to the island for 5 months.

As Far as I can remember from Miskin man and his lovely partner Jillie that they are involved with a club on the island ( small place off Portsmouth but nice)which is run every third friday of the month. Could of course be totally wrong about that detail. However what I do know is that to leave a message for him here or the Middle Bar singers site on Yahoo will get a response as to what goes on in that there place. aaargh me hearties. Psychomorris

I shall be visiting IOW for the first time late in April with Herself and a friend. 'Catters can be reassured I won't be bringing the washboard, spoons or kazoo and will not be exercising the tonsils in public, thanks to my ASBO and various restraining orders.

Well we're back!
Wow, so much interest in the IOW Folk scene.
The Club we help with is The Downland Folk Club, at the Castle Inn in Newport, Monthly on the second Friday start about 8:15 or so. ( Which makes the next one this Friday 14th) Planned to be a Traditional and Shanty Club we take your name as you arrive and I try to sort out a running order. Not a singaround as such but I hope everyone gets a chance.

Every Tuesday there is a folk night at the Dairyman's Daughter at Arreton Barns. A mix of music, song and verse etc. Again not so much a sing around but a "whatever you want" around. We tend to join in with most musicians but listen surprisingly attentively to the Unnacompanied singers amongst us.

On the third Tuesday we have Paul's session at the Stag on Horsebridge Hill, on the Newport to Cowes road. Much like the barn but quieter.

For a fuller view of what might be happening have a look here.
Island Folk n stuff

See you somewhere.

Andy

GUEST, Psychomorris
You have got it all wrong
Portsmouth is part of an island lying off the Isle of Wight
NEVER the other way around
