Hi all you mudcatters!
Just to let you know that Banbury Folk Festival is holding a Song and Ale weekend as a festival fundraiser on 4th - 6th April 2008. The weekend will be held at Drayton Leisure Golf Centre, Warwick Road,Banbury OX17 1HJ and will cost £15 including camping. Everything will happen on site. The club is putting on a real ale bar and we are arranging for a local caterer to provide breakfast and evening meals (including vegetarian option if required) with rolls and cakes available during the day. There will be song/music sessions throughout the weekend plus we are inviting some surprise guests as well.

A booking form is available on Banbury Folk Festival website.

Tickets are limited to 60 people so book now to be sure of getting in.

Hope you can join us!
Cheers Merek'n'Dary

Hi you mudcatters

Its shaping up to be a great weekend. Lets hope we get some lovely spring weather now.

We still need people to let us know about their catering requirements. Today was the deadline so I have had to confirm the caterer anyway, so I hope you are all wanting food ... as it could work out expensive for us if you don't! There will be a choice of 2 meat options and a veggie option for main meals plus breakfasts and we will have rolls and cake available during the day on Saturday.

Still a few tickets left by the way. Daytrippers welcome too!Details on the website - See link in Guru's message. She's much better at this sort of thing than I am.

Bye for now Dary or am I Merek? Split personality again!

Hi Derek and Mary,

I didn't get in touch about food because I htought that we only needed to let you know if we wanted food. We don't as we are self-catering in the caravan.

Am really looking forward to having a great sing and meeting up with everyone.   Am also looking forward to Hilary's cheese and port - I will be bringing a contribution!

Any news about being able to stay on Sunday?

See you tomorrow,

The Port cheese sessions in our caravan till five AM were wonderful,my freind Ken Stephens enyoyed it next door ;no complaints there ! I trust we didnt make too many suffer the next day.My late arrival at lunchtime sings has bee duly noted :>(
All thanks again to Derek and Mary!!

Yes, many many thanks to Derek and Mary for a great weekend, and to all the fanatastic singers who came along, and to who ever arranged the beautiful beautiful snow - the view across the hedge and fields from my caravan door was spectacular! Also of course, many many thanks to Hils and Richard for their fine hospitality - really enjoyed the Friday late night port, cheese, singing and company, (though not necessarily in that order) - what I can remember of it anyway! But have to admit to feeling a little worse for wear the morning after! Will try to do better at Crediton so I can enjoy Saturday more! See you all there.

So glad you all enjoyed it! And what a relief, we managed to come out on top .... despite the expense of the caterer and made about £500 towards the Festival in October. Thanks for all of you that supported us by buying food, raffle tickets and taking part in the sweepstake and caption competition, not to mention the illicit soup kitchen. The snow was quite something wasn't it? Please please send any photos especially of our two lovely snowmen so that we can put them on the Festival website.

Most of all thank you for the lovely singing and for the rapper and border morris dancing .... but we don't think enough snowballs were thrown! (We can say that now we are safely back in our warm house!)

See you at Crediton - Derek's birthday to be celebrated at the Mad Hatters Teaparty!

Since we all had such a good time, it's a great relief to hear that it's made a bit of money for the festival.

The catering was better in quality than I hoped or expected, but there's an issue for next time (if you do a next time) over the size of the portions for the amount paid.... probably worth indicating sample menus in the pre-event publicity when asking people to pre-book?

Kitty

PS Thanks to Guest for reminder about Oxford next weekend - will there be a Mudgather, as we're thinking of paying a visit?

Hello I'm a mudcat virgin and want to thank you all, especially Mary and Derek for a great weekend at the golf club - thank you both for ordering the snow that nearly demolished my tent - in truth it was fun! I loved the singing - its inspired me to do some unaccompanied stuff too.

Thanks to Sue too for the border morris - I don't know how we didn't take out the lampshades!

Rapper was good too although there were a few near decapitations.

I know Alan and Jeremy enjoyed it too.

Yes, I was there too, Hil.
Well down Derek & Mary. You even provided some pretty snow for the Sunday morning. For the record, I did manage to get off the site in my campervan in virgin snow and to get to Alcester ok, part of which iunvolved going down Sunrising Hill (which is one in six with a very sharp hairpin bend). At Alcester I was the Minstral (I've never been one of those before!) for The Order of the Bredvin Knights for their procession to and ceremony in the Town Hall.
BTW, glad you made a profit!
Thanks also to Richard & Hil for the cheese and for the port-sharing facility, ie their small caravan!

How could I have missed all you Catters? I knew you were there of course, but my list-making ability doesn't seem to be working very well does it? The Register was taken at the start of the Sunday morning session & of course you weren't there Alan, you were miles away!

The small port-sharing facility (or Tardis as it really should be known) survived both late night sessions & Richard managed to get it off the field with his usual aplomb. All empty bottles have now been deposited into the local recycling facility & the caravan will be 'mucked out' this weekend ready for the next festival. We're indoor camping at Crediton, so where will the next 5 o'clock club be held?

ps. fantastic news that the 1st Fundraiser did actually make funds, well done Merek'n'Dary!!

The winning caption was something like " Nick was really pleased when the daffodil bulbs he planted in infant school finally came up!"

Other good ones were "Local Councillor found inebriated in flowerbed" which Nick thought was too much like the truth! My favourite was "Garden Gnomes are getting bigger these days!"

Hope to see some of you at Oxford tomorrow.... only going for the day, but will certainly be making the most of Crediton next weekend. Have sorted out our fancy dress for the Mad Hatters Teaparty today!

Welcome to Mudcat Sally (Cold Feet)... and a very appropriate name it is too, after that white weekend!

And yes, I was surprised about the lampshades too.

Thanks to all who danced and played .... and for a great weekend singing.

Sue

Thanks for the welcome Sue - I always love dancing with you - you soon knock me into shape when I can't remember left from right (which is most of the time really) and I just love wielding my stick and the satisfying thwack that ensues - what I lack in style I make up for with enthusiam!

There is no better way to warm cold feet that a bit of border morris! or none that I can mention here anyway!

Can't wait for Crediton - see you there.

By the way, I haven't titled the piccies yet, but some were taken by Jock 'o Dreams & some are from Seaking! And a couple are mine *grin*
