I have promised to "entertain" some three and four year olds for St. Pat's day where could I find 6 to 12 "suitable" ditties for the kiddies? The only songs I know are a little too "adult".

Thanks Sorcha, I probably should scan the displaysong. I think they'll probably not quibble about Scots' tunes. I might just do some Bell Cow and Boil them cabbage and the like. I think they like the rythym as much as the content. The grand daughter is a great show off and dances to everything. What'll we do with the baby-O, Dance to your Daddy. Yeah.

From Belfast....

MY AUNT JANE

My Aunt Jane she brought me in, she gave tea out of her wee tin
Half a bap, a wee snow top, three black lumps out of her wee shop

My Aunt has a bell on the door, a white stone step and a clean swept floor
Candy apples and hard green pears, conversation lozenges

My Aunt Jane she's awful smart, she baked three rings and a apple tart
And when Halloween comes round, for next that tart I'm always found

My Aunt Jane she can dance a jig, sing a ballad for a sweety pig
Wee red eyes and a cord for a tail, hanging in a bunch from a farthing nail

My Aunt has a great wee shop, with luck bags and lime juice rock
Cinnamon buds and yella man, and brandy balls in a bright tin can

"The Dunne Song" is always good for kids (or drunk college crowds) if you do the hand gestures to go with the chorus ... really gets them going.

Since I don't know if the hand gestures are available as a video online, I'll describe as best as possible. Motion happens at word in CAPS.

"For there was HIGH Dunne" - point up w/ both hands

"and LOW Dunne" - point down w/ both hands

"OVER Dunne" - tough describe: kinda "scoop" air with both hands at shoulder height...kinda like they're rolling on a 50 gallon drum

"and UNDER Dunne" - "slide" the hands (palm down) under your imaginary 50 gallon drum

"All the little younger Dunnes" - which every syllable, alternate both hands like you're patting kids on the head

"Who were IN" - point out towards crowd with one hand for 'in'

"And OUT the run" - @ the word 'out' pull hand back with your thumb up...like you were calling someone 'out' in baseball

"There was OLD Dunne, YOUNG Dunne, YOUNGER Dunne's YOUNGEST son" - start with your right hand at eye-level with 'old', and for each alternating age, alternate left/right hand lower than the other...like they're moving down rungs on a ladder

"YOUNG Dunne will be OLDER Dunne when the OLDEST Dunne..." - use alternating hands to 'climb up the ladder'

"...is DONE." - move the thumb across the neck, like you're signaling 'dead'

Okay, better get back to work now...good luck!

Thanks muchly! I had thought of Tell my ma. I think I could form a sort of musical chairs thing around that changing gender reference depending who was without a seat. 3 and 4 year olds love to run around in circles and plop into chairs. I'm OK time wise since I work two days a week (mon and tue) and the "party is on wed. So to Sorcha, Emma B, Patty Clink and Zhenya and Peadar thanks and have a great StP's day.
