Blues Trail getting longer

Went to a great presentation yesterday on the Mississippi Blues Trail. I know it's been mentioned before, but the whole thing seems to be picking up steam and there are some good links on the site for travelers.

It was a lecture on what's going on, punctuated by audio files of guys I never heard of and tales I never heard, and photos and recaps on the placing of the first 32 markers.   It's not that markers are such a big deal in themselves, but they are ways to get people to realize where the history happened and to try to lead them to active venues too.

They are having little ceremonies and often mini-concerts at each one and it is great that they are trying to snag some of the old bluesmen when they come through the area.   So instead of placing the markers in order of Importance, they are doing it wherever happy coincidence works out and where the communities really want one asap.

I did not know there is an American Blues Network of radio being run out of the Gulf Coast, for example. So much going on.

Where in Mississippi was this? I hadn't heard about any more markers/ceremonies being scheduled recently.

Department of Archives and History "History is Lunch" program.

Apparently there is a section of the department of economic development that is doing a lot of the work of planning and placing the markers.

This is the 'festivals and events' subpage, the next unveilings are going to be in Vicksburg and Greenwood March 28. Looks like there's a regular jam in Vicksburg too.
