the organisers of this fest very kindly asked me to be at this year's fest, but unfortuately it clashes with Leamington Peace Fest so I won't see you this year in Middlewich.

I don't see the Boat Band anywhere in this year's programme.
We enjoyed their Cheshire tunes workshop last year.

I too cannot see the Boat Band listed - maybe they're not on?

Also not listed are 'Lost In The Mist', but we're there. We're at The King's Lock on Friday at 8pm (supporting Shake The Barley) and at The Boar's Head on Sunday at 2pm, with special guest appearances by the Salt Town Poets and 'Song & Story', who are 'Monologue' John Bartley and Dorothy Fryman.
I've had a look at the itinerary thing sent to us by the organisers and can find no mention of the Boat Band. I'd be very suprised if they weren't there.
I'll make further enquiries.

I forgot to mention that our show at the Boar's Head on Sunday will be opened at 2pm by Phil Drane.

Still no news of the Boat Band....

Thank you for the enquiries re the Boat Band. The reason we have not been spotted in the schedules is that we have not been booked this year. Simple! Had anyone asked us, believe me we'd be there. But a bit of rest is no bad thing, I think we have played at the last two in one capacity. And probably at least two-thirds of the MFABs, over the years. We normally play the boaties' hotpot Thursday night at the Boar's Head at the very least...how they will have managed this year I can't iamgine!

Yeah, but Steamhead are playing, Greg, so it's sort of being kept in the family!

I don't think Steamhead are playing. I should be rather be surprised if they are, as our Kate was just talking to her mum who is visiting dwon in Somerset, and her mum's part of Steamhead. But perhaps she's coming back to play in Middlewich? We shall see.

I've just checked the website and you're quite right - Steamhead were on the list of fringe artistes last time I looked, but they're not there now...

Re: Phil Drane - quite definitely not a joke. If I didn't know it would end in disaster I'd try a blue clicky thing, but if you Google 'Phil Drane' you'll get all the gen on this well respected Australian artiste.

Greg,

I think they forgot to ask you for the hotpot supper thing. We were asked to do it at the last moment, but couldn't due to prior commitments.

Well, they seem to have put Steamhead on the programme without actually booking them, so maybe it was something similar with us?

Apologies to Mr Drane & friends re my misunderstanding.

Another superb festival weakend, one of the most friendly & community inclusive of the season's events.

Many thanks to Liz & the gang for organising it all.

Had a most pleasant leisurely ramble along the toepath Sat afternoon, viewing the excellent craft fair, complete with a couple of super hoofers doing street pantomime - a bit like Punch & Judy but with live actors instead of puppets.

Also the gaily decorated narrowboats resplendent with floral & horticultural displays - the floating garden boats - brill!

The weather was fairly kind with a mixture of 'scorchio' & thin winds [coats on - coats off!]

Completed our stroll with a walk up to the Newton Brewery pub canalside with a good range of real ales & a nice sheltered outdoor patio area where we had a good ol' singsong sesh, complete with appreciative audience of joe public + a crowd of jovial morris team & band - Maaaaaarvellous!

Fri, Sat evening several great & diverse sesshes in Bore's Head, plus a nice gentle jazz performance from Brendan Fahy, ably accompanied by Will McGuigan guitar, & Craig the super gob iron player.

The festival beertent was pretty damn good, too - 4 or 5 real ales in excellent nick plus some real cider!

Got a bit confused trying to find the "Morris showcase seated event" programmed for the Civic Hall on Sunday (which was wasn't happening inside after all, but was going on in the Bull Ring amphitheatre nearby...).

We had an excellent weekend (although it weren't half cold outside the King's Lock on Friday night) and we took the opportunity to revive the erstwhile Salt Town Poets, who are now once again myself and ex-Congleton Mayor Mike Parsons.

The beer tent was indeed excellent.

Oh, and so was Phil Drane at the Boar's Head.

All in all, a great festival.

Speaking personally, I've had a couple of years away from MFAB and it was wonderful to be back.
