A memorable holiday however was spent in an Hebridean Blackhouse converted to a small hostel on the edge of the Machair a type of sand dune pasture formed from fragmented shells and rich in wild flowers. |

As we walked along an agate beach, we saw a whale in the water, about twenty-five yards out. As we walked along the beach, it seemed to be aware of us, swimming alongside us for a good fifteen minutes. Another time, we rented a house not far from Mendocino, California. As my son and I walked along a cliff over a secluded beach in the eraly evening, we saw five or six deer playing in the surf. I don't think I'll ever forget those two walks I had with my son. -Joe- |
