It scans to 'Sweet Betsy from Pike' - and slowed down a bit and with a couple of minor note changes gives it a haunting air...but does anyone have a "better" tune? |

Something different is most likely intended for the last non-rhyming line, and it's probably best left unresolved rather than coming back to the first chord. There's a "freedom" song that would be a good fit, but its title is eluding me for now. Charley Noble |

They are slow and haunting, and they fit the metre perfectly, including the last line. |

I don't know troll but if he is still around perhaps he has a tune for it? (he did call his offerings poems but...)Seems like if he had something in mind it would be good to use that. You would need to stretch a little with the last line, but it's got lovely opportunity for some haunting harmony. Works also with "Health to the Company," but isn't as wistful. |
