Buying old 78's

I've had some frames built for some of my old 12 LP's so I can display them on the wall in my music room. So what I'm thinking now is that I'd like to find two or three old 78's and have them framed too. I'm not interested in playing them - just putting them on display. What I'd like to find is an original 78 of Jimmie Rodgers or the Carter Family. I'm guessing there are a few of those still lying around somewhere. I'd love to find something by Robert Johnson or Mississippi John Hurt but I'm thinking those would break the bank.

Does anyone have a good reliable source for old 78's? Anyone but E-bay please.

You might want to check some of Theses Links, Wesley. Or, HERE.

Neat idea!

I have a wonderful framed Paul Robeson 12" 78 framed. Got it at a garage sale for 50 cents---then I framed it.   You might try garage sales. They just give them away.

Wesley - I have some Bill Broonzy, Lightning Hopkins and a few more that I would love to have in a (different) good home- if there was Robert Johnson in the collection, I'd have retired sooner. PM me for the list if you're interested. I won't reply til tomorrow unless you're very quick! I'll actually sign in and check before I hit the sack after a day of painting. I need a pallet on my own floor.

A friend of mine in the UK has The Carter Family on several labels; Decca, Victor, Montgomery Ward.Likewise Jimmie Rodgers on Victor, Regal and Zonophone. What are you willing to pay? and I'll pass the information on.
He also has Eck Robertson's first Victor 78 among the collection.

Great idea! Can you photograph and post a link so we can see what your frame looks like, Wesley?

I have a bunch of 78s from the family--classical and many Irish tenors. :)

Wesley S. - Unless those records have some special meaning, i.e. they are autographed by the performer or writer, or they have some defect that renders them unplayable, I'd rather listen to them than look at them. That's why they were made.

Her's the place I've used - Record Frames

John I have all of these songs on CD already. For me it's nice to look at the change of technology - it's interesting to see these old songs in their native habitat. It brings back memories of my Grandparents old Victrola up on the farm in North Dakota. I worked in record stores for about 10 years during the 70's. I have an LP collection of over 2,000 discs. Picture Disc, colored LP's and some autographed records too. So I'm a bit of collector. I'll be framing some old comic books also. Conan the Barbarian, Silver Surfer, Hawkman and the Atom.
