But I got your attention AND this question does relate to that or something......maybe......sorta'............ THe past week or so has been very tough in 3D and with almost no time for the 'Cat except for a few minutes here and there. On the other hand, I have had time to drink a boatload of Tim Horton's coffee which is the source of this question. Currently Old Timmy is running a contest and you can check to see if you're a winner by rolling up the rim of your take-out coffee cup. For reasons I don't recall but probably relating to the "hurry up and wait" of this past week, I was reading the cup and discovered this sentence at the bottom regarding prize redemption: Skill testing question required for Canadian residents. Say what? Why is this? And what kind of skill is the question about? Drinking coffee? Using a drive-thru? Submersing donuts? Using your donut as a sex toy? Little help here Folks........Thanks Spaw.......Too Stupid To Figure It Out (lazy as well) |

28 Mar 08 - 07:24 PM (#2300022) Subject: RE: BS: AreCanadiansTooStupid---or what? From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz The History of Tim Horton's (A fable for your edification and entertainment...) a.k.a. Why you have to answer a skill testing question in order to win "roll up the rim..." Well boys and girls, it all started a long, long time ago...In a land not so far away...It began with Johnny Horton, a distant cousin of Tim, and the song, "The Battle of New Orleans..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4Q47i4zGBs Wow, wasn't that inspiring? Well, when those Brits ran at the Battle of New Orleans, where do you think they ran? CANADA. That's right kids, they headed for the cool blue north. Now, those early years was tough. But they did "make do" with a "stiff upper lip" for generations...Now TEA. They could make that, but COFFEE?; FA-GED-ABOUT-IT! So it wasn't until Johnny phoned up his long lost cousin in Canada, that would be Tim, the hockey player, and asked him to show those Brits that were up there how to make coffee. I suppose it was to make amends for the song that has been insulting Brits for all these years... So, in the spirit of forgiveness. They shook hands and decided to form a company...TIM HORTON'S. And so it was, with the steadfast British business ingenuity, good coffee, and American knowhow that a truly CANADIAN company was born! And in the spirit of generosity, everybody agreed that the famous "roll up the rim to win" contest would be a GOOD thing." But here is where you have to get to know Canada just a little bit. Mounties, Polar Bears(ya sees 'em 'round closin' time, rubbin' their big black noses on the windows), Maple Syrup, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, Prime Ministers who punch out hecklers themselves...Security? I don't need no stinkin'security - Jean Cretien, Health Insurance, clean air, squirrels, lakes & rivers, mooses, beautiful women, the Spirit of the French, good food, Freedom, somebody STOP me!....And, of course TIM HORTON'S, affectionately known by some as "Tim Horny's...' So, with all this GOOD STUFF in CANADA, the government said, "look, wouldya mind answering a skill testing question for contests? Just so's we don't give it away, like the Americans? And we said sure. And you must be wondering, "what IS that skill testing question?" It's, "Do you LOVE this country?" The answer: BOOYEAH!!! |

I took a pic with my cell phone of a Tim's cup and sent it to her. She texted back a nasty word. AND.....My Weimaraner is hooked on Tim's as well. She has gotten so used to getting her apple fritter that now when we go to town she LOOKS for Tim's and barks if I go past! No shit! Know what's worse? She's got a coffee monkey on her back too. She steals any coffee she can find and drinks it. She'll take the cup out of the rack in the van and if it spills which it generally does of course, she licks the coffee out of the carpet. Kinda' gross but I kid you not she's hooked. We can't go in anywhere without leaving the coffee in the doorstep of the van. If I have a cup at home sitting by the computer she runs off with it or just drinks it down on the desk! Thanks for the input. Spaw |

Most of the adults I know buy at Timmy's regularly, the few that don't have friends who supply them. There's a Tim's between our house and the schools where the rest of the family attend and work (my commute only passes the fridge in my kitchen) and so the family attends Tim's more than church. It's as if a double-double and a dutchie is the new sacrament. The drive-through extends onto the street, which happens to be four lanes of highway 21, trucks sometimes park blocking a lane of the highway, all of which should concern the police except that they're in line too, waiting for coffee and doughnuts. I swear at them as I pass, then return when it's not so busy. I'm addicted to their raisin-bran muffins, but since they switched from Coke to Pepsi, they've lost a little of my business. Somehow, this makes me feel guilty. They used to offer me free TimBits for the dogs at the drive-through, as if to get them addicted too, damn pushers(!), but we don't often use the drive-through anymore...parking or walking is better for us and the environment.
