Maybe you can see it on the list and at least get to hear a clip.. http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/songs/0,,494450-1,00.html |
02 Apr 08 - 10:09 PM (#2305091) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Honeymoon is Over From: Jim Dixon BMI lists 17 different songs called THE HONEYMOON IS OVER. Allmusic.com lists 21 recordings, but none of them is by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. Ernest Tubb recorded one that was written by Ralph Smith and Floyd Tillman. Here's what I could transcribe from a couple of sound samples (I'm not sure the verses are in the right order.): …the world was full of sunshine. We used to laugh and play. But now that's all over. Our love has gone astray. Trouble walked right in the door upon our wedding day. CHORUS: The honeymoon is over and you are not the same. The day I really lost you was the day you took my name. I'm living with those mem'ries of days that used to be. The honeymoon is over and you … Before we were married, our love was like a flame, But now that we're married, that flame is not the same. You're as cold as an iceberg where the sun don't ever shine. The honeymoon is over and you're not really mine. CHORUS * * * Tennessee Ernie Ford also recorded a song called THE HONEYMOON IS OVER, and so did Little Jimmy Dickens. The Online 78rpm Discography Project confirms that Arthur Smith recorded a song called THE HONEYMOON IS OVER – MGM 16657 – but it doesn't give any songwriter's name. |
03 Apr 08 - 04:10 PM (#2305773) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Honeymoon is Over From: GUEST,Stew Thanks all for your input. I recall a verse going: "You come home from work one night And you find no wife to greet you Supper's on the stove she says and the meat is burnt a little Thought you were in paradise Walkin' in the clover, Stop and think about it son The honeymoon is over." A bit disjointed but a general idea of the lyrics. Stew |
21 Dec 11 - 12:20 PM (#3277783) Subject: Lyr Add: THE HONEYMOON IS OVER (from Ford/Hutton) From: Jim Dixon Not the song requested, but— This song has a boogie-woogie/rockabilly rhythm with a big-band orchestration. THE HONEYMOON IS OVER As sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford [E] and Betty Hutton [B] on the various-artists compilation "Let's Swing, Vol. 4" (2011) 1. [E+B:] When the weddin' bells have all been rung, And you both start a-wonderin' who got stung, CHORUS: Well, the honeymoon's over. It's really gone. Preliminary's over and the main bout's goin' on. 2. [B:] When the hen flops her feathers to look her best, The rooster hears her cluckin' but he don't hump(?) the nest, CHORUS 3. [E:] When we go to the beach to get nice and brown, She sees me in my trunks and says, "Your chest fell down," CHORUS 4. [B:] Now look-a-here, Sam, there's other fish in the sea. [E:] Well, ma, your bait ain't what it used to be. CHORUS 5. [E+B:] When you wake some mornin' and it's half-past-four, And you catch him peekin' at the folks next door, CHORUS |
21 Dec 11 - 12:41 PM (#3277801) Subject: Lyr Add: THE HONEYMOON IS OVER (from F Miller) From: Jim Dixon Another—This one is just plain old-fashioned country. THE HONEYMOON IS OVER Written by Vic McAlpine As sung by Frankie Miller on "Live at the Louisiana Hayride" (2008) 1. Well, at first when you get married, ever'thing is sugar pie. You love that little woman, cross your heart and hope to die. The same thing always happens in just a few short weeks: You meet some old friends downtown and you don't go home to eat. 2. Yeah, the honeymoon is over; brother, believe what I say. Yeah, all them fields of clover now have turned to new-mown hay. Take this country boy's opinion: you done lost your Sunday punch. Yeah, the honeymoon is over when you don't go home for lunch. 3. Now, people who will tell you you're as dumb as pat's old mule, Come ... by and try to tell you you ain't nothin' but a fool, And that little woman tells you you ain't like you used to be. Well, the honeymoon is over; brother, take this tip from me: REPEAT VERSE 2. |
21 Dec 11 - 01:00 PM (#3277809) Subject: Lyr Add: THE HONEYMOON IS OVER (from Brenda Earle) From: Jim Dixon This one is definitely jazz. THE HONEYMOON IS OVER As sung by Brenda Earle on "All She Needs" (2009) He doesn't kiss me like he used to kiss me. He doesn't hold me like he's really missed me. I swear—something goin' on. He doesn't bring me roses like he used to, Or kiss me on the nose like he used to. Though I know our love is true, I fear there's nothin' I can do. It's fear that comes with not quite knowing. It's just the pain that comes growing Untrue—that's what's goin' on. I know it really hurts Because I fear the worst. Ah, he'll be back again. We will settle in. There are things that haven't changed: I'm still a victim to his charms, I love to hold him in my arms, And I've got to stop pretending, For our love affair's not ending, But the honeymoon's over. |
21 Dec 11 - 01:32 PM (#3277819) Subject: Lyr Add: THE HONEYMOON IS OVER (Jones/Schmidt) From: Jim Dixon A show tune: THE HONEYMOON IS OVER, from "I Do! I Do!" Words by Tom Jones, music by Harvey Schmidt As sung by Robert Preston [R] and Mary Martin [M] on "Celebrate Broadway: Vol. 8: Duets" (2010) [M:] When your husband treats you like a piece of dirt, When you find a purple lipstick on his shirt, Then, my dear, it's clear the honeymoon is over, And you'd better be on the alert. [R:] When your wife decides that she should wear the pants, When she gets your goat each time she gets the chance, Then, my dear, it's clear the honeymoon is over, And you'd better search for some romance. [R+M:] Time you saw your Old trusty lawyer. Ask him whether You should find another nest to feather. [M:] When your husband suddenly becomes a swell, [R:] When your wife is bored by ev'ry joke you tell, [R+M:] Then, my dear, it's clear the honeymoon is over, And you may as well Pack up, move out, Tell her, "Darling, Fare thee well." Time you saw your Old trusty lawyer. Ask him whether You should find another nest to feather. [M:] When your husband starts to play cherchez-la-femme, [R:] When your wife is always ready to condemn, [R+M:] Then, my dear, it's clear the honeymoon is over, And you may as well [R:] Play the scene out, [M:] Make your exit, [R:] Hit the climax, [M:] Pull the curtain, [R:] Pack up, [M:] move out, [R+M:] Tell her, "Darling, Together, forever, Looks more like it's never. Fare thee well! Go to hell!" |
