31 Mar 08 - 07:02 AM (#2301861) Subject: Who's Attacking Kevin Mitchell? From: Fred McCormick I've just heard that a certain M Parris has been attacking Kevin Mitchell's singing on the BBC. I know no more than that but before I set fire to the Parris homestead, could someone tell me who he is and precisely what he said? |

I think it was Frank Harte singing, not Kevin Mitchell. I can't quite remember the context, but he did call it caterwauling. And he thought it was English ......... Derek Schofield |

Newspaper columnists like Paris are paid to be controversial; getting hot under the collar about their spewings is a sign of their success. Ignore them; they'll go away. |

He was a bit of a pyscho, but he finished his career with a strong showing with the Giants and should not be attacked for his prowess. There is still that unconfirmed story about his girlfriend's cat that scares the hell out of me. |

From: Herga Kitty It's over a week since the Black Boy was broadcast, so it's fallen off Listen Again, and POTW doesn't seem to be available on Listen Again anyway. I started the "Our ghastly tradition" thread because Matthew Parris's throwaway line just seemed so gratuitous and facetious. If the singing had been rubbish I wouldn't have bothered, but it was a strong performance in traditional style. I thought it sounded like Kevin Mitchell, though didn't have much time to assimilate, and I haven't heard much of Frank Harte - but Mary Humphreys also reckoned it was Kevin. Kitty |
