I've been to a folk night!

I just got home from a folk night in a pub! First time that I have been in a folk venue this millenium as far as I can remember! Brought back memories.

I do hope you weren't Too Folked Off by the experience!

It was an odd thing for me to do, though I was just being taken to a pub to pick up a cd, turned out the band did the whole cd! before we could buy one. Reminded me of my days in folk clubs.

Why is this BS?

How did you know it was a "folk" night, not some other sort of night?

Did the use of the word "folk" mean that people were driven away by the description, as some assert?

Did the bands have to pass an exam or meet an appointed standard, as some also assert should be the case?

Its only a folk night if Richard Bridge says it is. Otherwise us knuckle draggers and egomaniacs are just abusers of the great tradition.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

What did you call those sing-arounds at the rather excellent White Horse Folk Festival? and I do seem to remember you at one of them this millemium as well.

Skipy-

It's really OK. There's really very little risk that this will become an addiction. No doubt the session will go belly-up in a month or two if it hasn't already. Or alternatively, it could grow wildly successful and transform into a session for contemporary singer-songwriters!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

RB your post confuses me! It was the launch of the new CD by Crucible, not only a fine folk band but we class them as friends too!
I went along thinking that they where simply selling their new CD, I did not until I got there realise that they had hired the top floor of the pub for the evening.

Great aren't they?

Fancy all that touring and still married.

How did the non smoking go? And did you wear a freshly-pressed frock?

There is evidently a risk of posting any special event on Mudcat.

Having fun, everyone?

Oh skipy Dear, it's quite possible to go & enjoy a Folk Night without the 'S' word you know. Hope to see you at one soon!

Ah Dave. Crucible were at White Horse Festival two years ago, when I was fortunate enough to visit and get to know you all.
Great gang.

See you later this year.

Isn't it strange that there's the assumption that "normal" people won't like folk music?

Crucible are playing in Bath tonight, at the brand new Bath Folk Club in Widcombe, supported by Nancy Kerr and James Fagan.

O/k Guru, tell you what I will do! I WILL enter the sing at Chippenham & I WILL sing something as long as the vipers don't take the piss with the "S" word, if anyone does that's endex!

Can I have recording please skipy? Not that I'm a cynical beast, but I haven't heard you sing for about a decade or so. Our folk club meets on obscure Sunday arvos if you are interested.

Me too, skipy! And I wouldn't dream of bringing up the dreaded 'S' word unless it is on one of the threads that you start about it!

Oh, this sounds very hopeful skipy Dear!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that all goes well at Chippenham and other local events. Please Catters, lets keep that 'S' word out of the picture. It will be wonderful to be see/hear you more, we need you right inside the folk scene with the rest of us, not just organising wonderful festivals and in doorways Dave!

Guru I PROMISE I am going to try to be in as venue, the problem is that it will seem a sign of weakness if I do! I will have to wrestle with this in my mind.

(p.s. last night I printed off the words of a couples of songs!)

Definitely not weakness, it's a sign of strength! So many people have wanted you to join us in sessions and clubs for such a long time that they'll be delighted you're coming in from the cold, honest!!!

Anyway, it'll give you more of a chance to display those frocks *grin*
