Jesse Winchester podcast

Mike Regenstreif's new podcast is various artists singing the songs of Jesse Winchester.

Included artists are: Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Emmylou Harris, Ted Hawkins, The Bluegrass Gospel Project, Harvey Reid & Joyce Anderson, Chris Smither, Joan Baez, and, of course, Mr. Winchester himself.

I'll be in Montreal on Saturday for Jesse Winchester's concert. They're always a big treat. I remember the early-1970s when Montreal venues like the Golem were about the only places he played.

Gee Bob, I'm sorry I didn't mention the venue, ticket price, etc. I didn't realize I was responsible for that.

Frankly, it shouldn't be up to a guy from Toronto to supply you with the info on shows in your own city.

And for Guest Guest & Ham...Let us not forget the immortal words...

And I grew up kinda wild, cause my Daddy never told me no,
Let it go, let it go, let all that bullsh&t go..." - Jesse Winchester(circa 1971)

Fantastic concert by Jesse Winchester on Friday night at Library & Archives Canada. Full house & two standing ovations richly deserved.

The Montreal Concert was great too. Met Jesse in the rain as he was going in. You know you're getting old when you can't remember which DECADE you last spoke to someone.

I sang "Let it go" to him as I approached. "I was born in Memphis twenty-five years ago..." He squinted at me, laughed, and said, "Well, a bit longer..." LOL. We talked a bit, shook hands, and he dashed off for the sound check.

What can I say about the concert? He did many of his Classics: Yankee Lady, Biloxi, Talk Memphis...You have to wonder in amazement at the consistency of the performance, one brilliantly constructed song after another. Piano-like, tasteful accompaniment on guitar. And friends, you know this guy can sing. Fun rapport with the audience. A laid back, memorable show. Then I sat back in amazement and considered WHAT HE LEFT OUT...MORE great songs he COULD have done from his body of work...But there just wasn't time.

I got a picture after the show. Another with Maurice Podbrey...

Jesse has loosened up over the years. I told him that. It made for a relaxed wonderful evening...

Hey Bob,

I saw you in the Polish restaurant before the show. Mike Regenstreif was at a nearby table and after you came up and said something to him, somebody at his table asked who that was, and I overheard him say, "Bob Ryskiewicz."

Jesse was as as fantastic as ever. And having Mike introduce him was an added touch of beautiful nostalgia. Like being back at the Golem in the 70's.

In picture of Bob Ryskiewicz and Maurice Podbrey, I guess Bob is the white-haired guy. No, that's Maurice. No, that's Bob. No, that's Maurice. No, that's Bob. No, that's Maurice. No, that's Bob. No, that's Maurice. No, that's Bob. No, that's Maurice. No, that's Bob.

One of my many disguises. A true Ninja blends in with the scenery. Go to the roundhouse grandma , he'll never corner you there...
One more Fu Manchu/Zapata moustache and Maurice and I could tour...That is, if it's really me writing this. And then, who would be the stunt double...?

bob (or is it Maurice?)

I caught him in 1986 I think it was, on his only UK tour. 'Band On The Wall' in Manchester - anyone other Mudcatters there? His funky chimp dance to an acappella 'Rhumba Man' stays in the mind!!!! Loved the man since his first recordings. A totally sensitive and perceptive writer. Thank goodness he's back to gigging 'cos he's had the odd layoff over the years. He responds to emails too.
