Rather, I'm looking for songs that bemoan the leaving of home or relate a return to the home,be it a place or a country. For openers, two of my favourites are old but, to me, enduring: When It's Lamp Lighting Time In The Valley The Old Home Place |

If so, there's shedloads, most of which I can't bring to mind at the moment. (typical). However, Sweet Sunny South appears to fit the bill, as does Blue Ridge Mountain Blues. I shall return when memory permits. |

If you can locate a copy, there's a massive collection called Irish Emigrant Ballads and Songs by Robert Wright. Mine is not to hand at the moment, but I do recall it was published by Bowling Green Press, 1970s (I think). |

Most of these nostalgic songs are often Music Hall in origin, or written in the mid-19th century to appeal to the immigrant (see most of the so-called "Oirish" songs, like "Mother Machree", or "Tipperary". Still usually great fun to sing though! |

A snippet is translated on the web but gives completely the wrong idea. I don't know of any musical setting of this and I can't imagine why not. |
