Yes there is an excellent one of April 20th in Danby Village Hall. There are some excellent local and national artists on including Wendy Arroswmith, Brother Crow and the excellent Jackie Oates. Here is a link to the website for more information.

Hi Jane

last year St George's day fell on a Monday, and so the celebration took place as part of the 'Not The White Horse Folk Club''s Monday evening, several of the dancers/musicians being regulars there.

Since it falls on a Wednesday this year I think there'll be some 'goings on' as part of 'hissyfit and Friends' at Cottingham Live.

Don't think you've paid us a visit yet?

Maybe a bit far to go but Perth Morrismen will be at the Moon and Sixpence till the Hobgoblin runs out, though we may move to the GK Abbott.

St. George's Day is celebrated by several nations of which Saint George is the patron saint, including Catalonia (Spain), England, Portugal, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Macedonia and the Gora.

Having read through this thread & wiki article, I can't find mention of the purpose of the celebration,

Anyone know?

Perhaps it could a celebration of the "Twinning" and mutual celebration of sisterhood and brotherhood across these many and varied collections of people?

Isn`t it a disgrace that, once again, our capital, London, will not be officially celebrating our Patron Saint and it will be left to private functions in pubs and clubs carry the flag?
On your bike, Ken!!
