14 Apr 08 - 12:24 PM (#2315210) Subject: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: oombanjo It's that time of the year again, take the warming pan out of the cupboard, string it up, and head down /or up to Sewerby in East Yorkshire. FOAOTMAD'S Mayday weekend of old tome music and dance. Campervans, Caravans or |Tents welcome. This is a free weekend to members and guests in order to promote Old Time Music and Dance. This year I have been informed that there may be at least 4 dance teams on site and there will be classes for dance between 1030 and 1130 am Saturday and Sunday morning. You can get into the park after 12 on Thursday the 1st May although most turn up on the Friday. We do not have to leave until midday Wednesday although most have left by Tuesday midday. Directions will be signposted but if you get lost ask for the Ship public house. , Drive into it's car park and keep heading for the cliffs with the sea in front of you. You will come to an access road to the park, turn left and follow the road round to the left, when you see the station, (turning point for the land train) in front of you, go to your left onto the grass, behind the seat and the deer pens, there will be a double black gate in front of you that the keepers will open for you. However if you arrive after 6 you will have to come into the park and give me a shout. After 8 and it will be the pub. The landlord of the Ship is putting a mini beer festival on for us and evening kick off will be 8pm each night in the pub. If you don't know Sewerby you can put Sewerby House into Goggle and check it out. Cheers all. John. Y |

The stars will be Keith Burrows( fiddle/mandolin/guitar) and Cathy Benjamin (guitar/bass/banjo) of Bristol, the harmony singing twosome, who will be entering unholy deadlock. Superb - I can't wait. 24 Apr 08 - 05:41 PM (#2324729) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: GUEST,Jack Padgett I will be coming with Jenny and her friend over from Australia, Camryn Ross. She has never been to a May Day festival of any sorts although she has done a few "joey" hunts in Queensland. Peter and the children are also looking forward to it but they are hoping to hear some brass along with the banjos. I met Sandra but she regrets "no can do" due to a pole dance assignation in London, apparently HSBC are running a corporate do for some Chinese and she wouldn`t miss that for the worlds. I have found a place for the WINNEBAGO we hired so perhaps an "afters" party is in order!!, might hear some music as well. |

Cheers John.Y |
30 Apr 08 - 03:24 AM (#2329440) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Tyke Oombanjo please remember that Kicking Dogs especially Mrs Ducks Dog Lottie is not allowed. Please buy yourself an electronic tuner for your Banjo as the traditional method of kicking the Dog to obtain a note to tune a Banjos has now been banned through out Europe. |
30 Apr 08 - 06:01 AM (#2329546) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Geoff the Duck Tyke - I think that you are confusing it with Uke players infecting their dog with fleas so they can tune up... Quack! GtD. |
30 Apr 08 - 08:00 AM (#2329617) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Tyke No Geoff that's the tuneing method you are confusing it with. You obtain the Note from the Dog by kicking it then hold the note in your head and sing MY......... DOGS....... GOT......... FLEAS.......... starting with the note that the dog gave you when you kicked it. You don't have to give fleas to your dog at all. |
30 Apr 08 - 01:22 PM (#2329903) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: oombanjo Field inspection Thursday am. 30 Apr 08 - 03:23 PM (#2330045) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Tyke If we have to go onto Hard Standing will you br posting a notice to that effect and directions to and alternate entrance before we pass the point of No Return. Is it, this weekend when the Mudcat may go off line due to Max Moving? |
30 Apr 08 - 04:37 PM (#2330101) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: oombanjo Nnnnnnooooooooooooooo George. but i will. It will be into the main car park, but only if all other avenues fail and it will probably be for one night only, if the weather comes right. Cheers jy. |
01 May 08 - 03:34 AM (#2330361) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Geoff the Duck John - if you have the opportunity to update us about the state of the field it would help with our plans, as bringing the pup depends on being able to set up the awning, so if we are on hard standing, we may have to make alternative arrangement. By the way, Tyke. When did you ever become an expert on instruments being in tune???? Quack! GtD. |
01 May 08 - 03:41 AM (#2330365) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Tyke Never did Geoff I would have though you would have noticed! Everyone else has! Mind you they don't play Banjo's. lol |

01 May 08 - 01:06 PM (#2330739) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Mrs.Duck Sent Geoff off at half three today. Rest of the family will be there tomorrow afternoon sometime. Anyone ordered the good weather? |
01 May 08 - 05:58 PM (#2330981) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: Geoff the Duck Got back at half past nine. Quite a few are already tere and set up. The field is not too bad, but people were being camped at the top end of the hill, to give extra time for the lower end to dry out a bit more. Weather has been dry there today, and not looking bad for tomorrow and Saturday, so with luck the camping situation should improve. Oombanjo's new machine looks and sounds nice. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |

06 May 08 - 01:02 PM (#2334137) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: BanjoRay Got home from Sewerby this afternoon. Had five great sessions in the Ship (every night of the time I was there from thursday), and some good ones in the Orangery in the afternoon where we played (and danced) to full houses of visitors to the hall. The Ship had three rooms of sessions - Old Time tunes (and a few songs and spontaneous flatfooting) where I spent my time, a Bluegrass session with some amazing players, and a song session where the Ducks mostly hung out. The pub, who put on a beer festival for us, never stoppped serving and never threw us out - we usually left around 1am because we were knackered. The weather slowly improved over the weekend , till the last full day (monday) was perfect, and we jammed outside the hall all afternoon in the sunshine. I finished off with a trip to Bempton Cliffs at lunchtime today and watched V formations of gannets arriving across the North Sea, as well as a couple of Puffins, the forerunners of many. Very satisfying few days - and it's all free! There'll be another one in September - I can't wait. Cheers Ray |
07 May 08 - 02:56 AM (#2334627) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: oombanjo thanks to all who came it was a great weekend. Now I'm Knackerd and I'm of to bed |

07 May 08 - 08:42 PM (#2335337) Subject: RE: May Day Old Time Music Weekend From: BanjoRay I forgot to say - Keith and Cathy's wedding in the Orangery was great. Instead of "Here comes the bride" we all played "Give me back my 15 cents, give me back my money, give me back my 15 cents and take me home to mammy". The irony wasn't lost on them! We demolished a few bottles of Champers afterwards, and ate two wedding cakes. Cheers Ray |
