I'm forgetting Beverley Festival this year .... I would rather support the Beverley Beck Initiative

It's disappointing that this has happened. Has there been some major disagreement with Chris Wade? Anyway,I'm not going to the main festival this year but I will be going to some of the fringe events. Will someone please keep us up to date with what's happening on the fringe?

I'm pretty sure that it is mentioned in the festival leaflet as in " there will be fringe events in the local pubs"

Anyway Roy is your man for fringe organisation - pm him at wildboy.

I hope that the fringe hasn't been marginalised :-)

What do I say on this without being an interfering old git? However to allay any misconceptions. 1. The fringe will always be there and is supported by the E.R.Y.C. 2. The places on the field for those that are hosting sessions on behalf of the fringe will always be there, they have been given and are supported by E.R.Y.C. 3. If the main festival even conceders taking these places away they will not be able to, the fringe was given these places by the E.R.Y.C.for as long as the festival exists in Beverley. 4. I am sure that Roy (wild boy) is working with the main festival and will post as soon as he has all the lose ends sorted out. I hope this helps Cheers Oombanjo

There is a very grudging reference to the fringe under the heading "venues". I'm sure there will be plenty going on - I will be there with my fiddle anyway, just let me know which pub! Hope it's the Tiger again, we had some lovely sessions last year.

Yes Lin. Weather dependant there may be two or three sessions at the Tiger. Nice to hear from you.

Who needs the festival when theres the Fringe?
Theres an excellant new outdoor seating area at the Tiger on Lairgate which is ideal for a 3rd session

Well the good news is the legendary Whippersnapper are performing together again (good on ya Beverley for booking'em)...along with Waterson:Carthy, that's worth the price of admission alone :-)

Hi there.

Just to let you know that the Festival Fringe page is now up on the website.

It was in no way the fault of the organisers that the page was so late in coming, more to do with learning my way around the new site and trying to get all the info in to upload, so apologies for the delay.

We will keep updating it as more information comes in. If anyone has any good photos of the fringe, please do email them to the festival and we will add them on the page.

Hi folks,

Yes as you can see the fringe is happening with some hosted sessions and some pubs identified as 'Folk Friendly' where you are welcome to just turn up and play. Thanks to Les for the link.

Oddfellows is closed at the moment awaiting new tenants and the Monks is having structural work carried out and haven't been back to me as yet as to wether it will be available for sessions.

Tiger will be mainly tune sessions, Friday night and Sunday night are sorted, if anyone would like to host sessions there over the weekend please let me know. We also hope to run a singaround on the Synatan Sunday lunchtime.

The other thing to mention are the events on the camping field, The Teenage Cancer Trust concerts, Beverley Arts Trust late night performance area and some great youth music performances. These are either free or by donation.

Also as ever there are individual event tickets avaiable for most concerts.

Or if you want a free weekend ticket with free camping the festival is still looking for volunteers volunteers

Maggie and I will be looking after Friday and Sunday evening sessions. We will be happy to start the Friday session much earlier if people are turning up in Beverley during the afternoon as a sort of 'meet and greet' session. That's in the front room in Hodgson's - the pub adjoining the Festival campsite.

I can also recommend the Songwriters session in Forresters on Sunday (2pm). This is hosted by some very accomplished local songwriters and has always got really good reviews from everyone I've talked to. As Roy (Wildboy) is one of those songwriters he might be too modest to mention it, but I'm not, so I can.

Check out the main festival programme here

Sadly the info has come to late for me. I'm doing Beverley Beck this year as I didn't think the fringe was happening and I needed my Beverley fix.
