Lyr Req: Annie: 'Old oaks stand tall...'

Does anyone know the song that starts

Old oaks stand tall, Annie
See the world grow small, Annie
But when they fall, Annie
Where will we be?
Winter has come, Annie
No strength in the sun, Annie
But when it's gone, Annie
Where will we be?

Any info on rest of lyrics and who wrote/sang it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Quokka

I remembered some more of the lyrics to this:

When those colours have faded
When Old Jack comes to call
Don't tell him no
Tell him maybe
Oh, Annie, God bless us all
God bless us all

Any info at all appreciated.
Thanks,
Quokka

Try this.
Looks like it's from Ronnie Lane, Eric Clapton and someone called Lambert (who he?)
Cheers

Ronnie Lane/Kate Lambert/Eric Clapton (Slim Chance Music). Easily found via Google if you enter a key phrase instead of worrying about what the title might be.

See, for example,  Spiritual Boy - an Appreciation of Ronnie Lane  or  Rough Mix

Thanks, BanjoRay and Malcolm.I have been looking for this for years, but with no knowledge of who sang/wrote it I didn't have a clue about how to find it - until I discovered Mudcat, that is! I can't believe how good this site is...I think I'm becoming addicted. And I can't believe I didn't recognise Eric Clapton's voice when I first heard the song. Duh!

Old oaks stand tall, Annie,
Seen the world grow small, Annie,
But when they fall, Annie, where will we be?

Winter has come, Annie,
No strength in the sun, Annie,
And when it's gone, Annie, where shall we be?

When all the colours have faded,
When old jack comes to call,
Don't tell them "no". Tell them "maybe".
Oh, Annie, may God bless us all.
Oh, yeah, Annie, may God bless us all.

Hear the children call, Annie.
Every leaf must fall, Annie.
God bless us all, Annie, wherever we'll be,
And God bless us all, Annie, wherever we'll be.

[Recorded by Ronnie Lane on "Live in Austin," Michael Weston King on "Live in Dinky Town" and "God Shaped Hole", The Bushwackers on "Bushfire" and "Flash Jack from Gundagai," and by Ian McLagan on "Spiritual Boy: An Appreciation of Ronnie Lane."]

This song first appeared on the album "Rough Mix" by Pete Townsend (of the Who) and Ronnie Lane (of the Small Faces and later the Faces), released September 1977. The singer, by the way, is Ronnie Lane, not Eric Clapton (at least, this version). Clapton in all likelihood plays guitar on the song as he is credited on the album as a performer and, as noted, as a co-writer of the song.

I fell in love with the song from the first time I heard it, back in the fall of '77.

During the recording of the album in 1976/77, Ronnie Lane was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but he lived another 20 years before succumbing to the disease.

Thanks, Jer, I feel a little better about not recognising the singer now...

This song was written for the care taker of the children of Ronnie Lane named Annie. She was also a spiritual person for the many ppl that hung around the farm house. She was neighbour of Ronni and his first wife Kate. Information taken from documentary on .Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance.
