Mudcat (Max) is Moving -PossibleDowntime

From: Max

Hello all. First let me say sorry for not being around so much lately, but life gets in my way sometimes. I truly miss you all and look forward to spending more time with you soon.

I am moving to another town nearby starting next week. April 29 - May 1st is when it's going down physically. As many of you know, the Mudcat runs out of computers in my basement. So there may be some downtime around then.

Trust that I am making every possible effort to prevent any downtime at all, and those of you who know how incredible smart I am know that if anyone can do it it's me. However there are other very large nearly monopolistic companies that I must also work with in this matter. So while I am feeling confident about my job, theirs is completely outside of my control.

The good news is that we're going to have almost 10 times more bandwidth, the bad news is it will cost an extra $40 per month, which mathematically seems like a good deal. And, for anyone who remembers, makes it technically possible to broadcast mudcat radio again.

So that's the news for now, wish me luck.

Best of luck with the move, Max.

Last time we moved, the movers gave us a special box for the necessities, so we wouldn't have to rip everything open in a panic on the first day in the new house. Of course, they packed that box in some other box, and it took us three days to find it.

How many of us have learned the hard way that it is better to get rid of the junk before you pack it in boxes and move it? Good luck, and here's hoping you find yourself in comfortable digs and lots of space with good bandwidth connections.

I think it's time for me to go dig around for something to put in the Mudcat auction again. . .

I'm in withdrawal already. ...

Does the Annexe have the wailing room/wall ready for this?

It could be hours? ... days? ...

(of course Max has a current backup of everything!)

Get the family settled first of course.

Be back as soon as it doesn't interfere with getting your own relocation done.

We'll wait patiently (although I may have to call my Doc for some mild drugs, and I'm sure others will know what to do).

It's times like these that we should realize that Mudcat is not to be taken for granted. It's still here because Max cares enough to put up with us. Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad!

I wonder if Joe Opper and the other moderators that keep this website going are aware of Max's plan. Maybe we should PM them so they're not surprised.

Happy Trails (Roy Rogers, I guess)

Who cares about the clouds when we'ere together?
Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you,
Until we meet again.
Happy trails to you,
Keep smilin' until then.

******************************************

I'm Moving On (Hank Snow)

That big eight wheeler a rollin' down the track
Means your true lovin' daddy ain't comin' back
'Cause I'm movin' on, I'll soon be gone
You were flyin' too high for my little old sky, so I'm movin' on.

That big loud whistle as it blew and blew
Said hello to the Southland, we're comin' to you
And we're movin' on, oh, hear my song
You had the laugh on me but I've set you free and I'm movin' on.

--- Instrumental ---

Mister fireman won't you please listen to me
'Cause I got a pretty mama in Tennessee
Keep movin' me on, keep rollin' on
So shovel the coal, let this rattle a roll and keep movin' me on.

Mister engineer take that throttle in hand
This rattler's the fastest in the southern land
And keep movin' me on, keep rollin' on
You're gonna ease my mind, put me there on time and keep rollin' on.

--- Instrumental ---

I warned you baby from time to time
But you just wouldn't listen or pay me no mind
Now I'm movin' on, I'll soon be gone
You have broken your vow and it's all over now so I'm movin' on.

You switched your engine now I ain't got time
For a triflin' woman on my main line
'Cause I'm movin' on, I'm rollin' on
I've warned you twice, now you can settle the price 'cause I'm movin' on.

But some day baby when you've had your play
You're gonna want your daddy but your daddy will say
Keep movin' on, stayed away too long
I'm through with you, too bad you're blue, keep movin' on...

Good old Hank Snow, eh!

Good luck Max! Happy Trails!

Peace, Mooh.

it is exciting knowing there is more to look forward to.
let's see how many members do we have?
if everyone put in just a dollar a month
or the equivalent in Euros/pounds, francs, pesos, etc.
that might help this along...that is not $40 total,
but $40 MORE....than it already takes to keep this boat afloat....

thank you MAX, and thank yous, to your family also for
sharing you with us all!!

Chaps...(and chapesses...) the Mudcat is not the whole internet!
And the internet is not the whole of life.

May day is a good day for the move.
The rest of us should be out dancing the sun up (we will, at Holme Fen with Pig Dyke Molly at 5 in the morning) dancing in the streets, singing and celebrating the end of winter. Not sitting at home staring at computer screens.

Max, all the best with your move, and thank you for Mudcat, in case any of the above sounded unappreciative.

And $40 extra per month???? That sounds a lot, given that we were having to have a whip-round for a disk drive lately. I hope you've done your sums and can afford it!

Hmm, so many people mention the downside of moving. How about the upside? A new home, a new garden, the chance to paint rooms lovely new colors? Perhaps you are moving to save money and gain peace of mind. Perhaps you will be closer to friends and family...

Whatever the reasons are, good luck and thanks for all you do.

Sod moovin the hoose! Thats a piece of cake but when I think of the server rooms I've worked in, the thought of shutting everything down, unbolting it all, packing it up, physically moving it and then doing everything in reverse pluc reconfiguring it all again is enough to give me the heebie jeebies and nightsweats.

Is there a PayPal link for Maxes relocation fund?

Cheers,

Andrez

PS: Well if Mudcats off on Mayday, at least I can always go out and bag me a brace of Morris Dancers fer supper

Folks, let's try to raise the additional $480.00 (or more) of increased costs in the new place for the first year. Let's do it this way. Use Paypal or send a checque, and send me a PM. I will report daily how much we raised in the fund drive. You should PM me your committment. No names will be posted, just do what you can. I am going to use $20.00 US as the suggested amount, but whatever you can do will be added to the tally. Then maybe we can report to Max he has his next years increased cost covered. Yes, No?

All the best,

Mick

Well..... I had hoped for a better response. Thanks to those that have dropped me a line so far. I am holding off on mine so's I can make up the difference to get us to the $480.00 bucks to cover the first year increase. Mine will be a minimum of $80.00 without regard to what else is given. But right now I have only $80.00 that folks have let me know about. That leaves a $320.00 shortfall. I hope that folks are pitching in and just not letting me know. C'mon folks, help me out here.

All the best,

Mick

Geeziz Mick.....Where did you pull the $80. figure from, speaking of assholes.........Eighty Bucks?????   Why not $73.39? You could have said $50 ya' know and saved me some money........but I of course had to match yours so I sent the little dude $80. and put in a plea downstairs below the line for $$$ from the swamp dwellers and political bullshit artists that are boring my ass stiff down there lately. I'd prefer they made the other side stiff but alas...........

Now I just need more of the regulars to kick in whatever they can so's Mudcat Maxie can get settled and get back on the air.

BTW, Max, I was on the show in the early days, and hope you'll make a little room for me again. We sure had fun doing that.

C'mon folks, step up, do a paypal, let me know the amount so's I can report that we are over the top.

I mean, how long does it generally take you? Just keep the updates and the rest of the mess to yourself.

OK, folks. I have been holding off because I didn't want to slow down those that still want to give. Most folks in this total have already made good, and a couple have promised to make good and I am including those amounts in the total. So if you promised it, be sure and send it. And know that Max really appreciates it, as do I. The amount raised, so far, is drum roll, please....:

$690.00

Thanks for making the place special.
