Hi Everybody, well Folk Week is just around the corner, and we have endeavoured to keep the pub as musically orientated in keeping with your kind advice, and our love for live music, not just for Folk Week but all year round, we now have a new piano, guitars, harp, violin, for all musicians to play etc..Looking forward to seeing you all again, and once again thank you for all your help. Love to you all...The Two Sisters..Sun Inn Beverley

I spent a rather spiffy saturday afternoon in The Sun recently, in the company of Johnny the Harpmaker, not been in for ages. Good luck to The Sun and all who sail in her!

Fixed it - also got rid of the ALLCAPS. We'll tolerate on ALLCAPS word in a thread title, two is borderline, and three ALLCAPS words in the title will change you to Title Case.

Great to see you all again yesterday after a much too long lay off on our part (unavoidable). How the pub is transformed and has the feel of a really established venue now.

Some great singing and playing made the 160 mile round trip well worthwhile. See you all soon

Hello chaps. Just a bit of shameless self promotion. That fantastic popular beat combo "VIAGRA FALLS" will be appearing at this very venue, this coming Saturday night (26th).

I should imagine a fair amount of beer will be consumed, both by the band to overcome stagefright (we're painfully shy, as you know), and by the customers to make the music sound vaguely acceptable. Hits from the sixties to the present day will be duly massacred. Requests will be politely accepted, then ignored.

Saw a few of you catters there last time, be nice to see you again at the weekend.

Cheers, Pete.

Ps. We don't play Flamenco. Or eat pies. I'm sorry ;o)

The first open mic in February falls 50 years to the day since Buddy Holly was killed (3rd Feb 1959 - 3rd Feb 2009). We will be running a themed Buddy Holly acoustic night in memoriam and I will be acting as MC.Should start about 8.30pm

We have a sign-up list of songs so that we can avoid 25 versions of Peggy Sue. If you fancy a go that night get in touch with Roy (wild boy on mudcat) to book a slot.

From todays Guardian newspaper:

"In praise of ... Buddy Holly

It was not really, as the song later claimed, the day the music died. It was not even the end of rock'n'roll, though it was, arguably, the end of the beginning. Yet, for those who can remember the moment, 50 years ago this week, when the news came through that Buddy Holly and three companions had died in a light plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, it remains a day that is hard to forget. Buddy Holly's career was incredibly short. His first hit single, That'll be the Day, was released in May 1957. Twenty months later, aged 22, he was dead, after a string of classics that shaped the music of the Beatles era and still enjoy iconic status. Today the music industry is an archipelago of specialist styles. In Holly's day, there was still something close to a unified tradition. He became a rock singer after seeing Elvis Presley perform in Lubbock, Texas, where Holly was born and is buried. When Holly toured Britain in 1958, the schoolboy Keith Richards was in the audience for one of his London gigs. Two nights before Holly died, the 17-year-old Bob Dylan saw him perform in Duluth, Minnesota. Holly was a trailblazer in his own right, though: one of the first stars to write a lot of his own material - including Peggy Sue, Maybe Baby and Words of Love. When he played in New York he played, unusually for a white rock star, at the Apollo in Harlem. His early death set a grim sort of trend too. But it is hard to think of anyone in rock music who packed such quality, influence and immortality into such a short life."

Well, what a wonderful night we had. I haven't seen the old pub so full for years.

Thanks to the dozen or so performers who did Holly's memory proud - with an age range from 20s to 60s I think that we can say that we spanned the generations. And the spontaneous audience singalongs to many of the numbers was very touching.

Sat' from 4pm 'till 7.30ish, very liveley tunes session, singers most welcome aswell. The local's love to dance! And we get 'em dancing and cheering!

Sun' from 4pm till closing (10.30) Mostley a singaround, but with tunes aswell.

Fri' & Sat from 9pm till fall over, Live rock bands. Exellent.

Debbie & Steve, Lisa & Graham, who run the Sun, love to have us all playing there. They support us 100%, And are the nice'est landloards you could ever wish to meet. They always put food on for us, and are most welcoming.
