It is the BHA chemical found in polycarbonate plastics found in: baby bottles, eye glasses?, drink bottles etc. (this is not the chemical already banned in Europe and Canada which sounds like Phenylkenes or pfulmates but is spelled differently.) Behavioral problems like autism also seem to be caused by BHA and is now being explored but the researh has only just begun. What is conclusive is that the BHA virtually falls out of the plastic matrix akin to outgassing and causes breast cancers and prostrate cancers even in children. The Diane Reems Show dianereems.org had the NIH scientist and some sort of industry defender on the show today. A priceleess moment came when the industry spokesman said "There is much hysteria and misinformation regarding this plastic and and claims of various hazards...." Diane then raised her voice and asked "Was there any misinformation on this show about this chemical?" The guy proceeded to answer a different question when... Diane then raised her voice again and asked "Was there any misinformation on this show about this chemical?" and the guy sheepishly said "no". I love moments like that. Anyway this is all I know about this subject so far and need to listen to the show again and get some NIH links. PS I mentioned this topic at the optician shop today and a woman chimed in about her father's ground breaking research into the hazards of dioxin. She said he was the first to introduce the conclusive findings regarding the harm dioxin causes to the entire world. |

My average post will require a dozen corrections. Some I catch and some I don't. I am sure you will continue to find amny glaring errors in my typing. You can cunt on it. |

29 Apr 08 - 01:44 PM (#2328830) Subject: RE: BS: NIH find a cause of breast & prostate cancer From: Stilly River Sage I've known for some time now that my polycarbonate glasses have made my eyes way more sensitive to irritants and allergies than they every used to be. (I didn't used to wear glasses). I've cut back on the various coatings they want to put on the lenses to try to reduce the sensitivity, but it is the plastic itself. I don't think they still make glasses out of glass, do they? SRS |

I like the light weight of the plastic, and I insist on the anti-scratch coating, or I'd be buying new ones every couple of months. The warnings about various plastics are interesting. They are coming at the same time that various cancers are being connected to belated virus reactions. We have known for some time about the Human Pappiloma Virus causing common forms of cervical cancer. Now there is research that may suggest a connection between chickenpox and measles and later incidence of liver and lung cancers. |

30 Apr 08 - 01:12 AM (#2329404) Subject: RE: BS: NIH find a cause of breast & prostate canc From: CarolC They used to say that women who ingested high fat diets were more prone to breast cancer than women who had low fat diets. My own belief about that is that it wasn't the fat in their diets that caused the cancer, but the hormones in the meat and dairy products that they were eating. I have been told that the hormones my grandfather was given to fight his prostate cancer were responsible for giving him the breast cancer that killed him. On the other hand, one of my parents' dogs got some kind of cancer or tumor on his mouth, and the vet said it was from his plastic food bowl. I tend to think that there are all sorts of environmental causes of cancer, and possibly a few hereditary ones as well. |
