29 Apr 08 - 07:57 PM (#2329230) Subject: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: The Fooles Troupe When trying to access Mudchat with Firefox, I get a blank screen, with "Done" appearing in the statusbar below. It may be due to FF-1.5 (currently not upgradeable due to needing to upgrade the current Fedora version - that's another story!). It may also be due to some of the extensions such as 'NoScript' etc, needing reconfiguration. Any help? Ta, Robin |
29 Apr 08 - 08:02 PM (#2329234) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: katlaughing I am using the beta firefox, but have no problem getting to the chat page. I can see who is in there, etc. I have gotten a blank "done" page a few times when going to other pages here and on other sites. I hit refresh and it loads okay. I have sent them feedback about this, fwiw. |

29 Apr 08 - 08:26 PM (#2329252) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: The Fooles Troupe Well I have had to use Opera on my Windoze Box to get the chat, since I stopped using IE, and started on FF. |

AS far as I can tell all the things obvious to someone very experienced are ok - but I can still make stupid mistakes... :-) |

However FF2 on Win9x - STILL won't let me get most of the FF Options screens - so can't fix the text size etc... |

Ubuntu 10.04 Firefox 3.6.10 I can get into the chat page, but I get a message that "FF prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" and nobody seems to be there.... clicking on the allow button just recycles around the loop OK I've got a gazillion plugins.... but I can't see any logical reason why things aren't working - I checked with Joe a while ago, and he could not suggest anything useful (no - that didn't sound right!) ... :-) I have set whitelists, and anything I can find.... Any suggestions? Polite, that is - I know youse guys .... :-p |

13 Oct 10 - 12:14 PM (#3006099) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: gnomad Have you tried Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility, uncheck "Warn me when sites try to redirect or reload the page"? I would be happy to run that way on Mudcat, and it sounds as though it might work. I would be less sure for the rest of the internet, however. I use Firefox for just about everything, but don't do chat (too slow typing) so can't offer that specific help. |

The 'allow' on the page just cycles, but there is a "x" in the corner - which seems to make it all go away.... will probably be safe, but just am puzzled why it is happening for me and not others - i have all sort of plugins and something is not right.... :-) Thanks guys... |

13 Oct 10 - 06:13 PM (#3006388) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: Tootler Foolestroupe, For some reason the menu structure in Windoze and Linux is slightly different. As you're on Linux, you need to go to Edit>Preferences rather than Tools>Options The rest is as in gnomad's post. |
13 Oct 10 - 06:17 PM (#3006389) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: gnomad Ah yes, I forgot you use Linux, I see that 3.6.10 is laid out differently depending whether you are with MS or Linux. If you go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced you then get the same sequence as I first mentioned. Mind you I'm still not promising it will work :-) |

13 Oct 10 - 06:31 PM (#3006402) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: The Fooles Troupe OK - made the symptom go away - not sure that it 'fixed' anything - knew about that trick, (prefer to keep control of the 'security' - it's called paranoia....) but (different versions distracted me!) hadn't wanted to do it - but since a 'friend' told me, decided to trust them. Now, I've got all these loose bits of colored paper with numbers like 50 and 100 on lying around, any suggestions what to do with them? |
14 Oct 10 - 02:23 AM (#3006603) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: gnomad Just awake for the new day, so apologies in advance for any errors. Now you just need to get some folks into the cahatroom (if I've understood you correctly) I am sure all the coloured paper will attract somebody, maybe someone needing to find a home for some funds left behind by the relatives of a deposed politician. Like you I tend to want all available security features working for me, so would only lower the guard with a site I trusted, such as this one. "It is only paranoia if nobody is out to get you." |

14 Oct 10 - 01:55 PM (#3006967) Subject: RE: Tech: Firefox incompatible with Mudchat From: Tootler I assume you are referring to poor coding on the server side. I've had it happen on both Windows and Linux. There is also the occasional "Optimised for IE" site that won't let you load it, though that is getting less common. I think even the corporate folk are beginning to realise there are browsers other than IE. I wonder if they will ever realise there are OS's other than Windoze? |
