Liz the Squeak sings Fauré

Last night at St Alfeges church in Greenwich UK our own Liz the Squeak soloed the Pié Jesu in a stunning rendition of the Fauré Requiem presented by the Choir of which she is a member. The East London chorus gave a very sensitve and beautiful rendition of this wonderful piece of music. I know its not folk but it was one of our own singing before a paying audience and therefore worthy of an accolade and congratulations on a splendid performance.
Well done Liz

Squeak, what a wonderful voice you must have! You've been keeping this under your hat. Congratulations, and I wish I could have been there.

Liz can be heard "squeaking" on one of Les Barkers records, so I am told :-)

Wonderful, Liz! That's an unearthly piece, for sure. I've only been part of the chorus and even that is glorious.

Well, I posted a link to Lucia Popp singing this piece which was up on youtube, but my posting seems to have disappeared. I wasn't familiar with the piece. Even more impressed now that I have heard it. Well done, LtS!!

*Blush*!!!

Thank you all for your kind comments, you'll have to take my word for it that I'm very pink and very touched. Thank you.

Ron - it's ironic you should say that - one of our tenors is called Ron Davies.

It was one of those performances that, once the first three notes were out, just sailed away with a life of its own. The venue is almost a cube, so had fantastic accoustics and I was accompanied by Edward Batting on the organ.

Thank you again.

Now taking bookings for weddings, funerals and Bar Mitzvahs!

How can I put this delicately Alan... I have sung in a Masonic 'cloakroom' - does that count?

(Incidentally, the Masonic Hall, Wareham, Dorset would win the Accoustic Bog Society prize hands down, it was fabulous! Lots of seats, lots of coat pegs and plenty of room. The beer was a bit thin though.)

I dont know about Ma-sonics, She does Ultrasonics with the famous Squeak!!! the only sound heard when she stops is the thud of deaf bats running into things, like trees and buildings etc.!!!
but she sings right well.
It was the Organ accompaniment version, rather than orchestra, and I felt that this (more spartan) approach made the choral work shine that bit more clear and bright and it is THE most sensual piece of music (even if it is a requiem!!!)possibly ever written, right up there with Tristan and Isolde.

well done, Liz, wish I'd been there. We are going next week to hear it as it is one of my favouritest pieces of music, bet it won't be as good as you though.

Can't quite rise to your heights, Liz, but the U3A choir to which I belong sang the Faure requiem at a charity concert a couple of weeks ago in a local church, with the organ accompaniment.

Beautiful music and a great event. We raised £450 towards a community centre.

From: Severn

Far, eh? (as they say up North in Canada). An ocean away is much too Faure Way from the USA, but I would've liked to have heard it. You're too far out of my Aria Code.

In all Pie-eaty, do you have any of that Jesus Pie left, or are you saving it in the freezer for an Easter Service or the coming (again?) sequel to the Last Supper (entitled "Just Desserts"-a Pecan Divinity, maybe?)? Savior leftovers for the rest of us, if you could! Do you have a recipe to share for Jesus Crust? We only sing about "Methodist Pie" over here, so obviously, you have better methods over there.

"In The Sweet Bye And Bye We'll have Pies In Disguise When He Dies...."

Was it REALLY more sensuous than trysting with Isolde, Micca? (Sorry-that joke Isolde than I am!).

In God We Tryst? (So's THAT one!)

"Let's Tryst Again Like We Did Last Summer"? (Isolde and no wiser?)

....I'd better quit now, while I'm behind....

As long as you keep the cow pies out of the cowboy version, Linda, we can still take it to church.

...But a lassoo always goes over pretty darn well over there in Your-Rope!

I'd never heard of Pié Jesu, so also looked at a few other versions including the Sarah Brightman & boy soprano video from ALW's Requiem. I'd never heard of that either, so will be borrowing a copy of it from my local library.

Sandra, if you can find an early record of Aled Jones, AJ2, Pie Jesu, he sings both versions! And lots of other lovely songs too.
I have it in my car and he sings all the way to work every day!

I too have done the chorussy bit's but my voice is to "folky" (OK nasally) for a solo. We also wear black tux's not brown ones so that would be a problem too.
