BS: Rudd mulls court action vs. Ahmadinejad

From: bobad

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says his government is still taking legal advice on whether it will take Iran's president to the International Court of Justice for inciting violence against Israel.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had threatened to eliminate the Jewish state and the government was taking legal advice on launching a case against him at the international court in the Hague, Rudd said.

"The Iranian president's repeated extraordinary statements, which are anti-Semitic and expressing a determination to eliminate the modern state of Israel from the map, are appalling by any standards of current international relations," he told Sky News.

Perhaps some of our posters who believe that Ahmadinejad is a poor misunderstood victim of Jewish nefariousness can set Australia's Prime Minister straight.

I would describe him as a manufactured boogeyman of a multinational corporatist/fascist oligarchy, but I think if someone wants to take any action against Ahmadinejad, the World Court is the way to go. And while they're at it, they can take the war criminals in the US and the UK (Bush and his administration, and Blair and his administration) to the World Court as well.

Carol - Yes, I think you're right about that. The World Court is about like any American court. The people with all the money and power either win in court, or avoid it altogether, while the little people, in this cas Ahmandinejad, get the shaft.

How is it different from Hillary Clinton making statements about theoretically obliterating Iran?

Perhaps both she and Ahmadinejad should be charged with inciting international violence. That would be interesting.

Then you've got Bush, Cheney, and that lot who have not just incited international violence, they've actually committed it on a massive basis...on 2 countries...and killed hundreds of thousands of people. So try them first. Then deal with Ahmadinejad and Hillary Clinton who have only made some irresponsible verbal threats, but not actually done anything yet.

LH - You're right, I think. The only people who get tried for these things are the ones who lose wars, or come from places that are small and the impact is minimal.

Yes! You gotta be damn sure you never decisively lose a war. ;-) Just ask Hermann Goering or Saddam Hussein or Manuel Noriega about that.

Two ways of summarising what Ahmadinejad seems to have said in this context, taken from that report: "...a determination to eliminate the modern state of Israel from the map",

"Ahmadinejad has repeatedly provoked international outrage by predicting that Israel is doomed to disappear."

The second would appear to be a more accurate version. And if that's so, I can't see a charge standing up in court, any more than would be thye case in respect of a prediction that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is unlikely to continue to exist in the longterm.

Yeah, but if the Germans had won, Peace, Goering would be known worldwide as a hero and a "great man", I'm sure. At least that would be the official line in the media and history books. He'd be like McArthur or Eisenhower in people's minds. Who knows, he might have even become the next Reichschancellor and founded his version of the U.N....located, of course, in Berlin. It would have been called the Greater European Union, probably...or something like that.

All the present regimes in the world are doomed to disappear. You just have to wait long enough. I can guaran-damn-tee it! ;-) Ahmadinejad is engaging in some wishful thinking, just as the American and Israeli politicians engage in wishful thinking every day of their lives about the hypothetical disappearance of the Iranian regime. And they discuss options for attacking Iran openly, with no apparent embarassment ("all options are on the table")...just as Ahmadinejad does regarding the hypothetical disappearance of Israel. Only he's not nearly so well armed...not even close.

They all do it. They preach to their own congregation and utter threats to the "other guy", either open threats or veiled threats. None of them like it one bit when the other guy does it back.

They should all stop doing it, in my opinion.
