Thought for the Day (May 24)

The rivers feel no weariness, they never cease from flowing.
They move swiftly like birds through the sky.
May the stream of my life flow into the river of righteousness.
May I be freed from the entanglement of my own failings:
Let not the thread of my song be cut while I sing;
and let not my work end before its fulfillment.
- The pre-Hindu Rig Veda (800 B.C.E.)

Peter T. Thanks for continuing to post your "thoughts for the day"! KatL., that song has beautiful lyrics....which (I think) deserve to be posted.

OK....try that again..not sure where the lyrics went! Please forgive the runon format!!

"Peace I ask of thee Oh river; Peace, peace, peace. When I learn to live serenely; Cares will cease. From the hills I gather courage; Visions of the day to be. Strength to lead and faith to follow; All are given unto me. Peace I ask of the Oh river; Peace, peace, peace." I use this song a lot at work to calm us all down a bit. I originally learned it at camp...and again, know NOTHING about its origins, or its author. Anyone????? Any other verses?????

My "Joyfully We Sing" book from the 1960's Wyoming Ag. Extension Service says it was written by Glendore Gosling and Viola Wood, but below the song it shows a copyright of 1941 by Janet E. Tobitt, maybe a daughter? Same words, official title, "Peace of the River". Bet posted it as the title of an old Girl Scout camp song in the thread about old Girl Scouts.
