Rabbi Sol's New Website

From: Rabbi-Sol

We finally got a new website up and running for the Borderline Folk Music Club of Rockland County, NY. house concert series, of which I am the head honcho. We are a totally non-profit organization.

The URL for the site is   www.borderlinefolkmusic.4themax.com

I would like to thank our volunteer, Mr. Akiva Kent of Maximum Impact Media, who took the time and trouble to design this for us, pro bono. It is a beautiful site complete with photos and MP3s.

We also now have the ability to do a professional grade video of the house concert (should the performers so desire), for sale after the concert.

Great things are starting to happen for us here at The Borderline.

Our next concert on Sunday afternoon, June 22nd features Straight Drive, a 6 piece band performing Traditional Appalachian Bluegrass.

We have Magpie, (Greg Artzner & Terry Leonino), coming in to do a concert for us on Sunday, September 14th.

Finally we have just confirmed today the great Christine Lavin who will be performing for us on Sunday, November 23rd.

The Borderline will also be organizing jam sessions, sing-a-rounds, open mikes, and group outings to folk festivals and other venues.

Keep tuned to our website for the latest happenings.

Thank you Bruce for providing the blue link. In all my years on Mudcat I still can not figure out how to do it.

If you ever come south of the border we would like to have you as one of our performers some day.

And Magpie is (are) an excellent duo. They are great supporters of needy causes, and fine music too.

In 2009 we will have Brian Peters in March and Sparky & Rhonda Rucker in November.

We will announce more shows as soon as they are confirmed.

ahhah, you're one of the reasons Brian can't come to Australia! But we hope to have him next year (fingers crossed!)

Congratulations on your website - very easy to read & great pics (esp. the trio outside the outhouse!)

I see klezmer listed as an interest of the club. You probably know that KlezKamp is held not a million miles from you every December. You could probably get a few good acts to perform at your club on their way to, or from, KlezKamp.

Thanks Gerry. I will be sure to check it out.

Our ideal Klezmer configuration would be Andy Statman, Kenny Kozeck,
Barry Mitterhoff & David Grisman.

Good work.

I love Klezmer clarinet as one of the most unique folk expressions in the musical world.

We have a very mixed group. Not all of our members are Jewish.
So we try to vary the performers based upon what we think will draw a respectable audience. Some prefer Klezmer. Some prefer traditional folk. Some prefer Bluegrass. Some prefer upcoming singer songwriters. We try to be all things to all people.

There are times when being all things to all people is not a bad thing. Nice site. Keep up the good work.

I wonder, Sol,have you had any of the guests we have had on TRADITIONS on WFDU? Oh, I know of a few you have had but was that connection ever made?

Seems the connection always goes elsewhere (check your website)---perhaps elsewhere is where your announcements should be made in the future.

   Hope they are of help!

Rabbi Sol-

Looks like you are making some interesting choices. Makes me nostalgic for the days I was doing booking for the Portland (Maine) Folk Club.

Cheerily,

Hi Bill,
We have not forgotten you or Ron. A link to WFDU will be put up this weekend when the website is updated to add the Cristine Lavin concert.

The only reason the WFUV link was already there is because our webmaster, Akiva Kent, does press coverage, photos, & videos, on assignment for them for concerts in the Metro area. He did website for us pro bono and piggybacked us on to his site so that we did not have to pay a monthly charge or a domain fee.

Other important links will be added as soon as all the bugs are worked out.

Regards
SOL

The website is now updated. We have the new flyers up for the MAGPIE and the CHRISTINE LAVIN concerts together with MP3s for each of them. Also up are new links to Ron Olesko & Bill Hahn hosts of "Traditions" on radio station WFDU FM with links to the station and the Hurdy Gurdy Folk music club of which Ron is the president.

Check it all out for yourselves.

Technically, I am both a member and Membercard partner of WFUV.
where I am listed at: WFUV - North of the City Membercard Partners, I offer a 10% discount for video, audio, web, and photographic services to WFUV members.

I'm NOT ON ASSIGNMENT from WFUV to do photos, video, etc., nor am I a staff member, officially REPRESENT the station, am a paid independent contractor, etc. although I do have a press pass representation from the Jewish Voice and Opinion when I do Jewish-oriented events, some of which have been published in the JVO and HaModia.

You can visit my website at: Maximum Impact Media, Inc. and see photos and videos of these press items at: Maximum Impact Media, Inc. webzine

I have taken photos and videos of numerous WFUV artists, most recently, Crowded House at the Fillmore East at Irving Plaza, Richard Thompson at the Nokia Theatre at Time Square, and John Gorka at Sanctuary Concerts, where I had a bonafide photo pass from the artists' management using professional equipment.

I have also taken photos of many Orthodox Jewish musicians.

I hope to exhibit some of these photos and videos at Finkelstein Memorial Library, Spring Valley, New York, during November 2009. Finkelstein Memorial Library. I am also working on having an accompanying live performance to go with my exhibit on November 9th.

Charity is one of the pillars of the World according to Torah Judaism. As a volunteer member of the Borderline Folk Music Club, I volunteered to host/make their website. Rabbi Sol must have misunderstood my background to when I introduced myself over the phone before I attended a meeting. I thank Rabbi Sol for his support and kudos here and elsewhere.

Note: I do apologize to any parties when a link to WFUV appeared on the club's page before theirs. This omission was not intentional and was because the site was under construction.

Hi Akiva,
I want to apologize if I gave out the wrong information previously on this Mudcat thread. It was a misunderstanding and was not in any way intentional.

Thanks for coming on to Mudcat yourself and setting the record straight.

And thanks again for the lovely website.

Sol, what a great looking site!! And I see you have linked to Ron, Bill and Hurdy Gurdy. Makes me nostalgic for the East Coast, though I am looking forward to seeing you all at Jean's.

Sorry it took me so long to get to this thread, but I have lost an Aunt, an Uncle, and two cousins, plus Utah in the last 3 weeks. Been a bit rough.

Congrats on the site, and I look forward to seeing you soon. My best to the formidable Fay.

All the best,

Mick
