BS: Views of celebrities

We often hear of views of entertainers on political and social issues and such. Do we give these views too much air time? Or, are these viewpoints more credible than those of the rest of us?

Celebrities *belong* on TV, where I can ignore them.

One should never pay much attention to those whose claim to fame is only fame itself (famous for being famous). They add no value.

I value the views and opinions of thoughtful, articulate, intelligent people who seem capable of independent thought. Whether a person who exhibits those characteristics is a celebrity or a plumber makes no difference.

When I want reliable advice I always try to consult a celebrity plumber.

I don't think, in general, that their views should hold any more weight than those of anyone else.

Unfortunately the media has given them an inflated view of their own importance and that is compounded by the celebrity worship that seems to be so prevalent these days.

If George Bush had and Tony Blair had tried plumbing first, maybe the world would be a better place?

I suspect we will see more and more celebrity views in the USA, as this drawn out election process bears fruit?

Isn't fame a form of envy?

If George Bush had tried plumbing first, the world would be a much wetter place I'm sure!

If we define a celebrity are those whose only talent is being a celebrity, then Ed, Q1 is yes & Q2 no.
