26 May 99 - 08:12 PM (#81974) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: katlaughing Margarita and anyone else who is interested, here is a link directly to the cd's page of the Seaport Music Store, where you cna find cds done by the Seaport's "Chantymen" from there you can go to info pages on the festival itself. I am so green with envy. I used to live about five blocks from there; my son in law works across the street and my one year old, today, grandsons will be looking for Mudcatters with their parents at the festival! Have fun and kiss my babies for me, will ya?! kat |

27 May 99 - 09:39 PM (#82260) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Matthew B. I have my motel reservations ready, but I doubt that I'll be able to get off work on time to make it. It breaks my heart to miss it -- especially this year, when the WindLasses will make their debut. |

27 May 99 - 10:48 PM (#82275) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Susan A-R Still contemplating it, but it depends a lot on whether I can get there, as I don't drive and it's a bit of a hike. I guess I am a we'll see. I'll look to see if any Vermont folks are part of the event. Susan |

27 May 99 - 11:05 PM (#82279) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: manylodges (inactive) Barry Finn, I am big into shantys, but live in Illinois. My interest stems from being in the Navy, and My love of History and Music. Are there any Mudcatters in Illinois. I always here of east coast, West coast, and the mountain states, but never Illinois. I have a very good collection of shantys, but no one to sing them with. Even in my rendezvous frendships, very few know shantys. |

27 May 99 - 11:18 PM (#82284) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Barry Finn Hi manylodges, I don't know if you're close to the Great Lakes but I've heard that there are some groups & folks that do sea music in that area. Try the International Shanty site & the Bitter End web page (can't do the blue click here thingy & I guess putting in the address isn't good for the Mudcat). Maybe others here can give you some better leads. Good Luck. Barry |

27 May 99 - 11:33 PM (#82288) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: katlaughing Manylodges: the Mudcat's one and only Art Thieme has been a prominent folkie in Illinois for many years, the way I understand it. Even though he doesn't get around as much anymore, I'll bet he knows of a few more people, possibly shanty people, if we ask him "real nice-like". kat, who goes to sleep listening to Art's tape |

28 May 99 - 12:34 AM (#82304) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Night Owl Margarita...Sandy Sheehan's show that Barry mentioned can be found at WUMB...91.9 FM on Sundays at 2:30 pm. Also Dave Palmater plays "New England Festival" tapes on Sundays prior to Sandy's show. The station is at UMass, Boston, and plays consistently GREAT music! |

28 May 99 - 10:22 AM (#82380) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Big Mick Manylodges, Two very good Great Lakes singing groups are "Song of the Lakes" out of Traverse City and a performer by the name of Dan Hall. They are simply excellent. Both have CD's available through Elderly Instruments. I don't know if they still do it, but Song of the Lakes used to take part in a song session every week around a bonfire on the Grand Traverse Bay about 10 or 15 miles outside of Traverse City. It has been some time since I attended one but it was great to sit around the fire with guitars, bodhrans, whistles, squeezers and the like. Mick |

One is the weekly Tuesday evening concert at South Street Seaport with The New York Packet on board the Peking. The other is the monthly Saturday night Chantey Sing at The Seamen's Church Institute at 241 Water Street where anyone can lead a song. I hope to see you both at both.

13 Jun 99 - 10:26 PM (#86468) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Barry Finn Just got back, what a great time. Met with Dick & Susan throughout the festival, always a great pleasure. Met up with Wotcha. Got to do a good bit of singing with Liam's sister-law (Bonny) & her cohorts, the Johnson Girls. They weren't preforming as a group but they were found to be doing spots here & there & Bonny just doesn't sleep, I kept finding her at all the 3am singing sessions doing quite the fine job of it. Some of the perfomers weren't related to sea music but the rest that were, were found to be singing all over after hours. Nature was also great in the performence that she put on. Wish it were longer lasting, oh well, next year is only right around the corner. Barry |

17 Jun 99 - 12:43 PM (#87422) Subject: RE: Who's heading to Mystic? From: Wotcha Barry, nice to have met you as well as Dick and Susan, and the NYC Southstreet Seaport crew. Matt B, I understand bumped his foot at the last moment and couldn't make it out. A great time was had by all. It was only 3 days a ago, but I reflect on the cool 70s and 80's weather at Mystic with a certain nostalgia -- it has been a blistering 124 degrees (51 C) out here in the Gulf ... ugh. I can highly recommend Mystic to anyone needing a concentrated infusion of sea chanteys and sea songs, before going on a dry spell. See you at the next one! Al Hamdalla ! Cheers, Brian |
