Thought for the Day (May 26)

Leonardo, Michelangelo, how did they do so much? I have thought about this because people are always asking me how I can be so productive. It is almost impossible to gauge how much can be done by someone working hard at something they love. Most people are either working at something they hate, or they have little time to work at what they love; or even more prevalent, they are working halfheartedly all day long at something they are only halfhearted about. It is good, or worthy, or what they currently know, but it is not their passion, if they even know dimly what that passion might be. But think of it: think of working full out, flat out, all the time at what you love. No one can imagine what can be done by such work and such people.
- notes from a Q&A session with Anthony Burgess (writer), 1978.

I argee with the premise, I envy the people that have found a way to make a living at their passion, but struggle with the conclusion that working full out, flat out to accomplish the most possible is the best goal. Letting life come to you, & taking the time to admire it happening isn't so bad.

Did you know that on 26th May 1904 George Formby the popular English entertainer was born, He was once awarded the Order of Lenin by Russia. Although he was aclaimed the king of the ukulele he only knew how to play in one key so when he was on stage he had a line of uke's all tuned in a different key.

I do admire all these great workers, artists and creators, but I am glad I do not have to live with them.
