BS: Product recommendations

I am looking to spend some money.

1. A rainproof, not resistant, not repellent, jacket. We have high winds and strong rains here. A hood that will not come off. LIned with fleece perhaps. Several good pockets. I love Lands End but am about to send back a second parka to them as they just don't do against the wind and rain here.

2. A air cleaner for a room..will be used mostly in a kitchen to remove cooking odors..roommates do not always like each other's cooking...and brought to bedroom to cleanse cigarette smoke coming from porch.

3. Hair product that will keep my hair from blowing away in the wind..coarse, dry, curly, fine, all of the above. I tried somethjng on at Aveda in Portland that worked great for two days...now I can't remember what it was and I went to their website and didn't find it...

So what are the best products? Reasonably priced. mg

For the jacket you might try places that cater to sailors. Foul-weather gear is pretty rainproof, but also pretty pricey. Also expect reflective patches on shoulders and hood.

Cooking 'odors' often involve particles and grease. An exhaust over the stove is often the best way for that. If you get just an air cleaner, it needs to have relatively cheap & easily changeable/cleanable filters.

Smoke filters are much the same if there is much smoke.

(I was given 2 air filters used by a smoker. They smelled too bad to use, and the filters were not cheap) We need only light filtering.

There is a smoke exhaust but I don't think it works very well. mg

Try the REI Outlet on line here . REI stuff isn't cheap, but there can be some good deals at the Outlet and their guarantee is excellent - plus there is an outlet sale going on right now.

Hair products I use (to enhance natural curl) are Redkin Crystal Curls (must buy from salon) coupled with Tres Semme curl enhancing spray from where ever. I have curly, fine, dry, colored hair and I really love any Redkin products I've tried.

Helley Hansen makes danged good stuff, but it's pricey. But if you want the best, that's probably it.

i got a great waterproof parka from Columbia Sportswear, with detachable hood, zip out fleece lining/vest, and lots of usable well-deployed pockets -- enough to carry a spare camera body, a couple extra lenses and lunch. it's done very nicely in high-wind winter storms on the Oregon coast.

I've been wearing my Helly Hanson foul weather top for 4 years now and, even though I've bought a new one, I really don't want to let it go. 'Nuf said.

I have fine, dry, flyaway hair. I used to use Stony Brook unscented shampoo and conditioner.

I have since switched to Sexy Hair Soy Milk Shampoo and Conditioner which I really like, as does my daughter. My grandson has refused to use anything but Sexy Hair because he likes the smell.:-) I see they also offer a Sulfate-Free product which is good! You have to buy Sexy Hair from a salon.
