Montreal Folk Fest -June 21, '08 Macauslan Terrace

I know I started this a while ago, but there will be an actual Montreal one-day folk festival at the Macauslan Terrace on June 21. Has there ever been an actual "Folk Festival" in Montreal prior to this? I'll be there; it's close to home.

In the meantime, Montreal's Fringe Festival has already started & does feature a lot of folkie perfomances; it's MUCH better than the tired old Edinburgh Festival (bin there).

John

Perhaps you have been asked before, but are you related to Peter Weldon of The Mountain City Four?

Mike

Yes, he's my cousin.
The (first version) MCF were Peter, K & A McG and Jack Nissenson. Later it included Dane Lanken, Chaim Tannenbaum, etc.

John, I spoke with Jack a week ago. He's sounding real good. And Tannenbaum had the voice of an angel.

Chaim Tannenbaum could be a star on his own. Two years ago he did a live duet with Martha W, and his voice shook the timbers.   He may start doing some post-retirement home recording. I like to encourage these activities...

I run into Jack from time to time; a few years ago he showed up at one of my "picking parties" and was great.

Isn't there one Labor Day Weeiend La Grande Raconte or some such thing??

I'm a recently converted Quebecois fiddler. Not that far from Vermont up to Montreal, but not driving makes it interesting

I hope some of you went to this, it was great fun, a huge success, and luck with the weather, too. They actually ran out of some kinds of beer, at a fest held at a brewery!
Annabelle Chvostek, River of Stew, Notre Dame de Grass, etc...
A strange spot, bicycles and pleasure boats drifting by on one side and a huge abandoned silo rotting away on the other.
Amazing for me, a festival I could actually walk to from my front door.
Got sunburned, though.

The first four sets of Photos were taken by my wife at the Festival sur le Canal, though many of them don't look like it.
Festivalgoers, Canadian Malting Co Interior, Saint Ambroise & Canadian Malting, and Canadian Malting Company.

Looks like a lot of fun! Let's hope it continues. We need a folk festival in Montreal.
