15 Jun 08 - 06:24 PM (#2366528) Subject: Swannanoa From: SINSULL Just in from Jeff Warner: http://www.swangathering.com/ http://www.swangathering.com/Catalog/TS/sgtssched.html Hello friends of Jeff Warner, and friends of traditional singing - This is going out to a larger group than usual, to let everyone know about a new program at Swannanoa that Jeff is involved with this summer. Whether or not you can attend this year, it's important to get the word out to inform as many folk singing aficionados as possible - people come from all over N. America to attend these "Gatherings." Swannanoa is a series of "folk weeks" that takes place in July and August at Warren Wilson College near Asheville, NC. It's been going on since the early 1990s, and focuses on various instrumental styles (Old-Time, Celtic, etc.) with a staff of world-recognized performers teaching and leading. This is a live-in learning experience, similar to John C Campbell Folk School, or Pinewoods Camps, with housing in the college dorms. In July of this year, Swannanoa is starting a brand-new program focusing on traditional singing styles. This year's staff includes Jean Ritchie, Dáithi Sproule, John Cohen, Connie Badgett Steadman, Kim & Reggie Harris, and more, as well as Jeff Warner leading Northeast, and Unaccompanied workshops/classes. It's an exciting opportunity for singers, both professional and amateur, to meet and learn from each other, and to sing together, perhaps in styles that are new to them. Check out the Swannanoa homepage: http://www.swangathering.com/ or the Traditional Song Week page: http://www.swangathering.com/Catalog/TS/sgtssched.html This is a one-time-only mailing, so if you are not subscribed to Jeff's regular mailing list, don't worry, you are not automatically being added. Please pass the word to any singers you know. If you run a folk club, please include this in your newsletter or mailings. If you are a DJ, please include this in your folk calendar, if appropriate. A well-attended inaugural year will guarantee that this valuable program will continue. -- Jeff Warner - American Traditions Portsmouth, NH, USA Office e-mail: jeffwarner.office@comcast.net Jeff's e-mail: jeff@jeffwarner.com Jeff's website: http://www.jeffwarner.com |

16 Jun 08 - 10:36 AM (#2366944) Subject: RE: Swannanoa From: Mrrzy Sounds great. I live right near there, and have visited, but have found the people living there to be, well, obnoxiously and in-your-face-edly Right. Knowing the Twin Oaks people, contrastingly, I find their attitude unnecessary... but there will likely be Very Good Music. |

Do you mean they're "folklore experts par excellance" and are know it alls? We have a place close to Asheville and was thinking of reaching out to those folks at Warren Wilson, is the reason for my question. regards chance |
