Karine Polwart interview

Mudcatters who, like me, appreciate Karine Polwart's music may be interested to see an interview she has done for my site Salut! Live. The first of two parts has just been posted at this link
and a second, shorter part (quick Q&A) will appear later this week (it's done by e-mail so I reproduce questions and answers more or less verbatim).

I do not know what others think, but having initially found her recent album This Earthly Spell fairly heavy going, I now need a fix of it every few days.

Good stuff, Colin. Very interesting reading.

First rate as usual, Colin.

Hey you songwriters & performers out there, read this. Karine focuses on writing and performing, not on Karine Polwart (in other words, no heavy PR-sell, which artists so often manage to work into their interviews). It's an interesting read regarding how these things impact on your life and vice versa.

Looking forward to Part 2

Great interview! Great questions and I love her take on things. One of the reasons I've come to like her music so much.

I'll be sending the link to friends.

I had Karine at my venue during the Scribbled in Chalk tour, and she is really lovely, with lots of interesting things to say.

One of our finest singer-songwriters, I think.

Thanks for this. Fairest Floo'er is quite a piece of work.

The comments are appreciated but of course the strength of the interview comes from the quality of Karine's responses. The second instalment
has been posted this morning and can be found
at this link

I also mention Karine's work in my first article on folk music for my new employers, The National in Abu Dhabi. You need to go from the main article (I used a Paul Simon review as an excuse to write about folk) to the link to the right, headed "key figures in folk".

I haven't seen her perform, but met her at Celtic Colours in Cape Breton a few years ago. What a great person! She was amazed that the gift shop had a few Malinky cds in the rack (and that I bought one). She's back again this year and can't wait to see her.
