14 Jul 08 - 04:10 AM (#2388231) Subject: RE: New Book: 'Irish Comic Songs and Satires' From: MartinRyan As Fred implies, the project has been a long time coming to fruition. As a result, some of the references may be a little esoteric for non-Irish readers - and even for young Paddies! Who remembers the year of the moving statues? Also, a few well-known favourites are notable absentees - probably for fear of bankrupting the small publisher with libel costs! Despite these small reservations, it's a great collection which captures a true purple patch in comic songwriting in Ireland (and a stray Scottish contribution). Fintan provides useful background notes in his own inimitable prose. I'll post a copy of the index when I have a chance. Regards |

04 Aug 08 - 05:46 PM (#2405212) Subject: RE: New Book: 'Irish Comic Songs and Satires' From: MartinRyan In the full text, Fintan discreetly refers to Dunne's Stores as "Ireland's most competitive cut-price supermarket" - so they might! Regards p.s. Of course, his comment is somewhat out of date by now... |
