I've got this darn tune going through my head right now and don't know the name or the lyrics, other than a very small scrap that goes

Well, it's not the traditional "Tavern in the Town" which has the same [phrase in it.

I can tell you that much--so by elinimitating that, you have one less possible answer. Isn't that helpful? Now to eliminimate all the other dseventy billion candidates...

Jacqui, some years ago we had a rather thorough discussion on the song "Tavern" here thread.cfm?threadid=13314

And I just now checked, the Wally Cox real audio version I referenced on 13 Oct 03 - 09:29 PM is still there. Again, I had not looked into that orphaned site for quite some time, but it is still there and has several things that might be of interest.

Now I no longer use real audio, and refuse even to have the program on my machines, but if you use it and want to listen, there it is free for the asking. If you are like me and refuse to use real audio in any form, then just ask and I will send you an MP3.

It's certainly not The Tavern in the Town or anything connected to it. It's a farewell song and the snippet you remember jacqui has been going roung in my head since I read this thread but the song stays elusively out of reach.

Gosh, Doctor, that is amazing. I searched for this in basically every way I know how and came up completely empty. The closest I got was pointers to THIS thread, which of course was entirely useless . . . until now.

I took the words down from MW-R's version. W&F is slightly different in the assignment of the chorus, and the treatment of the last verse, which is obviously only half the length of the others.

Yes, of course! I've even got the CD somewhere but just hadn't matched it up as containing that song. Definitely one to learn, it needs wider recognition.

Well as usual people do things differently. And the words change too! Martin W-R has slightly changed the chords when he plays it on the 'it takes us where it will' bit. So up to you. When they play it together they settle on MW-R's way of playing it - MW-R and LD playing together

  MW-R plays in Drop D (DADGBE) and G chord is 55000x. Sometimes plays a bass string run up to the D chord sometimes not. There is a swift single note D at beginning of song - or play the chords of some part of the song as an intro
